Bernard Hopkins insists that he does want a showdown with Joe Calzaghe - but says the Welshman will have to come to America to fight him.

Calzaghe-Hopkins has been in the pipeline for years, with Hopkins previously pricing himself out of the fight.

But he now says he would be keen on a meeting if Calzaghe beats Mikkel Kessler in November - and the terms were right.

"Let me set this straight once and for all, I don't mind fighting Calzaghe but not until he stops making demands," 42-year-old Hopkins told Boxing News.

"I mean, I don't have to and won't go to Britain to fight no one. Who are they to make demands of me?

"I'm the name who makes pay per view numbers. I was very impressed with his performance, but as far as I'm concerned the only recognisable names on his record are Charles Brewer and Lacy."

Undefeated Calzaghe boxes next on November 3, when he tackles Kessler at the Millenium Stadium, Cardiff.

It's not a winnable fight for Hopkins at this point, even if JC loses to MK, so I absolutely do not believe that Hopkins wants Calzaghe and don't believe it will happen even for the best offer for a showdown in America.

Things I noticed is he is up his own arse saying Calzaghe has to come to America. Over here we can pay you the money AND sell out much bigger venues. Warren has proven it numerous times - most recently with Tszyu, Lacy and Kessler.

Look at X say the recgonisable names are the American ones. Doesn't even recognise one of the best 168 pounders to ever do it - Chris Eubank, let alone guys like Mitchell, Woodhall, Reid etc

X says he dictates everything but when X needed a big name and a payday Calzaghe offered it to him. While he was calling out Mosley, Wright and DLH, Warren said here is £2.5mil come and fight Joe. I believe this was around the time X was fighting for £150k against Joppy!

This is whats going to happen if Calzaghe wins his fight against Kessler then Hopkins will fight him, if he happens to lose he will take the winner of Jones/Tito either way Hopkins gets payed and does hold all the cards.

Precisely, Hopkins wants nothing to do with Calzaghe, this is all just nonsense.

Do you know why he didn't fight Joe for 2.5 mil and took Joppy Achilles? It's not necessarily 'fear' of Joe or 'ducking', it's because Joppy was an easy win for him and Calzaghe was a bout that paid well that could have ended his potential marketability in America. I personally think Calzaghe beats any version of Hopkins, Calzaghe has an awful style for him, a smart guy like Hopkins knows these factors also.

European fighters in general are ignored. Mikkel Kessler is an infinitely better fighter than both Taylor or Pavlik and while he gets press, he will never get the explosive press that the winner of Taylor vs. Pavlik, a fight about two levels down in all around ability from Kessler, will recieve.

This is how it works though.

He'll have no choice but to fight Kessler if he really does want to fight the best. At this point, Hopkins is irrelevant. Any of the current prime fighters at 168 or 173 beat him. I'd even pick Jones Jr. over him if they have a rematch.

Man you are a idiot to beleive that washed up jones could beat hopkins. I give the benefit for thinking he might not beat joe but come on man jones could not beat anyone in top 5 at 168 or 175.

If (big ****ing if!) Joe against Kessler wins I'd hate too see him go on the seniors tour.
Much rather he took on Dawson, the winner of Taylor/Pavlik or god help us even dear old Clinton Woods!:yep

If Kessler wins I wonder who'd call him out?

If I'm Calzaghe, I jump all over this and call out Hopkins after beating Kessler. Even on Hopkins' home turf, Calzaghe should be able to soundly beat him at this stage in their careers, and he could both help secure his legacy with at least 1 win over a top 10 P4P fighter and a big payday.

He'd get good money for a bout against Hopkins but would get no credit.
They'd say Hopkins was shot. I can't see how this would improve let alone secure his legacy.
He should fight Dawson. Now that WOULD be a display of testicular fortitude.

Did you know that Calzaghe expressed interest in Dawson?

Imagine Kessler and Dawson back to back, would be amazing.

I consider the best 3 of the 160-175 crop to be:

    1. JC
    2. MK
    3. Chad Dawson

    IMO.

Thats how they market their products...they are very careful about taking on non-American based fighters unless they really have no choice. Its how the whole boxing business keeps all the supposed top names in America by not fighting the European fighters. Then when they lose like a Hopkins did against Taylor all of a sudden they have a new product to sell as one of the greatest fighters, and now if Pavlik comes close or wins he'll be another marketable product, doesn't really have anything to do with whose best tho.Hopkins will only fight if he feels he has all the advantages or has little choice

X isn't ducking Joe but he has avoided him for quite a while now.

X didn't really want anything to do with Jones or Calzaghe. Why fight Jones or Calzaghe for up to $10mil when he can get that v Mosley, Wright, Tito or DLH - much easier wins. They were the fights X was trying to make when Calzaghe offered him that.

I don't see why anyone would say X is shot. If he wasn't shot v Taylor, he isn't shot now. X is OLD, this is a fact but it has been a fact for about 4 or 5 years. Ever since he started having these long drawn out fights.

X just had the best fight he'd had in years. It is probably the most he has been pushed in a long time.

X is old but still a quality P4P win. To be the best 168 pounder of all time, totally dominated and unified your division AND beaten a top 5 160 pounder - well that makes you a special fighter! Especially when that top 5 160 pounder is considered the best 175 pounder.

Leave Dawson alone. More trouble than its worth. He needs to go for Hopkins or Woods.
