He's not though! He's very pleased with himself for selling the fight so "intelligently". He pats himself on the back for stirring the pot so successfully. Very disappointing.
Since playing the race card is clearly OK to promote a fight (according to most fans, I guess?), then I think Hopkins made a mistake. It would have been MUCH smarter to have Calzaghe make the comment that no black person could beat him. I have a feeling the fight would be receiving a lot more attention right now.
Hopkins is a good politician for boxing ..I don't condone playing the race card but he is doing his very best to get into Joe's head ..Its up to Joe to maintain his focus ..
If Bhops thinks he can get into Joe's head like this...he doen't know Joe and underestimates him greatly. (Between you and me, nothing cunning Bhops will try to use to get into Joe's head will work...you'll see):good
I agree, but to be honest, Hopkins cares more about the money than what people like you or me think about him. I think what happend was, Hopkins got word from Oscar that the fight might do well in the states, and was told to promote this thing the best he can. I remember just this summer my friends who are not big boxings fans, told me they were going to the bar that saturday night instead of coming over my place to watch the Winky/Hopkins fight, then after the weigh in the day before the fight Hopkins slaps Winky, now I have most of my friends asking me if they could come over to see the fight. I dont agree with alot of what Hopkins did over the years, but in the end his stunts draws more people that wouldnt normally watch boxing, to see his fights.
Yeah, which makes me think even less of him and this fight, which Joe has no job fighting in the first place...:-(
I agree with that, but I have a feeling Joe cares more about what people think of him, than Hopkins. I dont think Joe wants to paint that type of image of himself, Hopkins has a history of being the so called bad guy throughout his career.
Years ago it would have been amazing...now...:-( ...Bhops is not what he used to be and Joe still has it.
What makes you say so ?Hopkins just beat Winky and Tarver I still think he has enough left he's the exception to the rule when most fighters decline with age this old ******* gets better ..
He doesn't get better...he has been fading since before the first Taylor fight...Winky is overrated and fought at the wrong weight for him...Tarver was a LONG time ago. Watch the Winky fight again and look how much Bhops fades down the stretch. He is not as fast, not as fit, etc...amazing for a 43 year-old, but not good enough to compete with still-just-about-in-his-prime Joe.
