He get's credit for his skills. But Hopkins could have fought his whole career as a LHW so I'm not going to give him ALL the credit. His losses to Taylor and Calzaghe and his victory over Tarver stand out more than his win over De La Hoya, and in hindsight the victory over Trinidad.

so by this logic, mayweather should get credit for beating marquez because he was a great fighter dispite the fact that he was a blow up light weight?

  4. I remember they gave Hopkins flack for fighting Pavlik saying that Pavlik is in a smaller weight class when Hopkins spent the majority of his career at middleweight. Point is,,,,Hopkins is waaaaay better than Calzaghe still

His wins against the so called smaller fighters were all legit except the fight against Wright. I thought that fight was a disgrace to boxing.

The fight should of never happened. Winky Wright vs Bernard Hopkins represented everything that was wrong in boxing, a tired old boxer playing it safe by fighting a feathered fisted junior middleweight. That was Hopkins playing politics.

He gets alot of credit for beating Tito..... WHY? Tito DESTROYED long reinging WBA champ before his fight with hops... A guy hops was only able to UD.....

So he was fighting a guy who clearly was one of the top middles at the time....

He gets less credit for the DLH fight.... DLH was a bit older, and he didnt really win his belt against strum (although sturm is a good underrated fighter)

The winky fight.... I give him credit for, Winky was a very big jr middle (hes like 5'11) Winky was going to be feather fisted no matter what the weight was and even tho bhop fought dirty as ****, it was being hyped as a big fight at the time....

    So yea, he gets credit

No I don't give him any credit for fighting Winky Wright. Winky was a feathered fisted JMW. Keyword here JMW. Hopkins could of fought someone much tougher (like someone around his weight), but he played it safe and fought Winky Wright. Even Max Kellerman wondered what would of happened if Dawson fought Hopkins that night instead of Wright, and I'll tell you what Dawson would of kicked both their asses at the same time. That's how PATHETIC that fight was.

And Wright is not a big JMW, he is an average size middleweight with powder puff power. His wins against ODLH, Pavlik, and Tito were legit though.

A guy who made his pro debut at lhw knocks out a guy who made his pro debut at lw and you give him a lot of credit for that? Yes Hopkins fought at a catchweight but come fight night Jim Lampley comments that he has rehydrated back up to 169 lbs (lhw)

in this sport, you can never get credit from everyone.

Hopkins doesn't get credit for going down to a catchweight and beating Oscar, and Pac doesn't credit for going up to a catchweight and beating Cotto? Well which one is it?

We've reached a point where two people fight and noone deserves credit no matter who wins.
