Go for it Big Joe Calzaghe. Let`s fight old timer Hopkins instead of the young and great Lucian Bute. This is sad for boxing...

Hopkins has nothing to lose really. But it's a very logical fight for both fighters at this stage. I don't think Hopkins gets enough credit for the Winky win. I mean whoever beats Winky is never going to look good and Hopkins won decisively. All I got to say is that Hopkins looked really strong in the Tarver fight so obviously the move up has helped. He's obviously very old now but stylistically Hopkins is impossible to dominate, his defense is just too damn good.

One thing I don't like about this bout is though, is that there will be a loser and certain people might use it to **** on one of these fighters. But it shouldn't diminish what both have already acheieved. It should be a legacy enhancing bout so I'm all for it.

The sad part is that if Hopkins gets really dominated, it might tarnish his legacy a bit. Especially since he's never been VERY dominated in his entire career. Stylistically, Hopkins might be impossible to dominate, but when you have the skill of Calzaghe and you're not too out of your prime, so you could still throw 1000 punches with snap on them while moving quickly, easily beating Hopkins is the most possible outcome.

Calzaghe will get huge credit from American boxing fans for beating Hopkins, even though he really shouldn't. It's funny how he will probably get more respect for easily beating an old Hopkins than a prime Kessler. A win against Hopkins does little for Calzaghe's legacy. But a win over Calzaghe, does insanely high things for Hopkins' legacy, so that's why he might try to do it. But please Hopkins, don't. You're too old. :verysad Go and try to beat Ibragimov.. that's a much more winnable fight.

I would love to see this fight and I truly believe it happens sometime between early and mid next year.

    Calzaghe UD is my pick

I am a big time Hopkins fan but I am not sure he can beat the younger faster Calzaghe. Joe is a awesome fighter with tons of talent. Hops in on the very tail end of his career one would have to guess. 70-30 Calzaghe.

You are quite correct. In terms of legacy a win for Joe wouldn't mean much as AFTER the fight everyone would say Hopkins was completely over the hill. But I suppose if there is big money to be made, it'll probably happen

I think it would actually mean a lot to many boxing fans and Calzaghe's historical rating from fans in general, but to me it wouldn't.

The point is, I want Hopkins to retire as one of the few fighters in history that was never dominated by anybody.

I think this may be a bad stylistic match-up for Hopkins, particularly at this stage of his career. He may find himself smothered and outworked against Calzaghe.

Hopkins is the master of derailing seemingly unbreakable styles. I think his smarts could definitely give Calzaghe alot of problems. This fight would come down to how high of a tempo Calzaghe would bring to Hopkins, If Calzaghe tries to fight a chess match with Hopkins I can definitely see Hopkins having a chance to pull off the win but if Calzaghe brings it to the old man and makes it a dogfight there is no way Calzaghe would lose. And if it does turn into a dog fight Hopkins would get beaten up pretty badly!

This fight won't even be competitive. I'll be putting the house on Calzaghe, if it happens.

Meh. Good fight for Calzaghes resume for the uninitiated, but theres more competitive fights that prove more out there to be made. Calzaghe by very very easy UD.
