Why not? Haye has speed and power, but has stamina issues and often gets lazy. If Hopkins survives the first three rounds, he could have a field day with Haye. :smoke
Well, I am one who LOVES when aging greats battle it out. I was SO disappointed when they canceled Foreman-Holmes in 1999, I really don't want to see this one go by the wayside. And, like someone said, Jones could surprise people by putting in a better performance. Anyway, I suspect now that it WILL happen. It will be interesting what Jones's people say. Part of me also loves it because all these haughty "boxing purists" don't think it should happen. :hey
I am not sure you guys are aware that Jones was knocked out this morning. Being in denial is ok for fans, but for Roy Jones Jr. being in another fight with a good fighter is not good for his health. He needs some time off to regroup. I just do not see the point of him fighting Hopkins. I know Hopkins finally had a chance to fight Jones again, but Bernard making excuses saying Jones was not on his back when he was stopped makes no sense. Hopkins should fight someone legit or retire himself. It is a joke to have Hopkins/Jones 2 now.
The difference was, in 1999 Holmes and Foreman were largely on the same level. Hopkins is light years beyond Roy at this point.
Sure I know Jones was knocked out. Getting knocked out is part of the sport. No reason why Jones can't still get in the ring if he can pass the physicals. This is a fight Hopkins has wanted for a long time - and many fans have wanted to see. Sure, maybe it should be held a little further along to give Jones time to recover, but it SHOULD happen. It NEEDS to happen!!!
Why does it need to happen? So Hopkins can finally even the score? That is all this is about. Roy was just stopped. Being knocked out is part of the sport, but passing a physical does not mean everything is ok. Jermaine Taylor is going to fight Ward, which also shouldn't be happening probably.
even if you agree with hopkins about the legitimacy of the rjj/green stoppage, i don't think they can really sell the hop/rjj rematch at this point and a hopkins win will be discounted severely and won't mean much for his legacy. hops should fight someone else (preferably a top fighter in their weight class) and jones should retire. if jones doesn't retire and truly believes he just got 'caught', he should try for an immediate green rematch. again, roy should retire but if he doesn't he needs some type of win to really build the hopkins remtach up. rjj really hasn't beaten a legit contender around his weight class in 5 years. i think even the casual fans won't be excited about hopkins/rjj at this point or even rjj alone (you know hopkins can't really sell a fight)
Look if Jones wants the fight and Hopkins does also and Roy passes the physical it will happen, but the question is does it help either guys legacy.
i dont fkn care i still wanna see these 2 get it on again u know hopkins is gonna wanna rip jones head off and embarrass him... he wants to be the one to put the final nail on the coffin, and after being humiliated im pretty sure jones will get his ass in the gym and prepare himself as best as possible and try and reclaim a little bit of glory and by beating bhop he would do just that. i hope the fight still happens i just want a good fight and i think this still has the potential, maybe more so now to be an exciting fight minus the media hype and ranking systems fk all that sht these 2 do not wanna lose to the other
I don't see how they could 'sell' this fight to the public now. The first fight was a boring stinker and Hopkins throws 30 punches a round now. I guess he could shatter Roy's Glass Jaw but I don't see this fight being exciting or sell able to the public after today.
