Calzaghe haters like to point out that he shouldn't be given credit for his win over Bernard Humphrey Hopkins Jr because Bernard Humphrey Hopkins Jr was in his 40s at the time the fight took place.

Bernard Humphrey Hopkins Jr has since gone onto beat Pavlik, Pascal, Jones Jr, Cloud, Murat and Shumenov- doesn't really sound that shot to me.

Not giving Joe full credit sounds like sour grapes for those who struggle to comprehend the fact that Joe is the GOAT at 168. Deal with it haters.

I give it to you Hansl. Most of your Brithugging theads are as bad as they come, but in this case you have a very valid point.

Nobody thought Hopkins was shot, he's not even shot now, but he was well past his prime. For me Hopkins prime ended almost 5 years earlier against Joppy that was the last time he threw at a decent work rate.

Of course not, he was a 44 year old in his prime. Tell yourself that to be able to sleep at night(and hopefully never wake up). Now that's one way of desperately trying to make Calzaghe's record look relevant.

Hopkins wasn't shot. Cal also didn't win that fight.

Shot no, but far from prime. Perhaps Calzaghe wasn't 100% either but either way Calzaghe didn't beat a prime Bernard Hopkins and that's just the way it is.

no one said he was shot, but hes clearly not the man he was.

no man in his 40s is the same as he was when prime. Joe Cal knows this too, that's why he is laughing at you guys who pretend Hopkins was prime, pissing on you all the way to the bank whilst you laud him. Man he knew how to stitch you up.

he went up in weight and fought the best man there in hopkins

JOE HIMSELF WAS PASSED IT WHEN THEY FOUGHT - PEOPLE CHOOSE TO IGNORE THAT!

as much as joe is over rated by some - he is equally as under rated by others

if hed have fought over the pond a bit earlier he'd have acrewed a few losses, but I do think he'd have had more chance to showcase his greatness

joe laughs all the way to the bank at you goons who still applaud him facing fortysomething atgs. everytime you write a supportive post for him he pissed on you to return your favour, and enjoyed doing it, and you enjoyed it too.

having said that, joe did well to lift himself above his wbo baseline to SD 40something Hopkins. Sure he didn't do anywhere near as well as the better boxers Pascal and Dawson, but its good for a long term minor title champ.

Agreed. He's very judicious now about his opposition. And it shows in who he beats, and who beats him.

He definitely was not shot then. Nor is he now.

Calzaghe deserves credit for beating a viable opponent, yes and the LHW champ to boot. Beating an ATG, yes. But not beating an ATG in his prime. To me the overall criticism of Calzaghe comes from a lack of viable opponents on his record, and people try to use this to further that argument. In this case, those criticizing are off.
