Against Winky, Hopkins was always on his toes and moving to neutralize Winky's great jab. He made Winky chase him and when he wanted to initiate the action, the bigger Hopkins jumped in and threw combinations and either jumped back out and moveed again or clinched. Then he would move around again and dictate when he wanted to initiate the action. He also obviously relied on his counter rights all night long and threw them when he saw openings.

Do you think that this is what Hopkins will try to do again in order to neutralize Calzaghe's work rate with movement? On the HBO Countdown show, Freddie Roach said something a bit different in that he wanted Hopkins to fight on the inside. Maybe he wants Hops to just smother Calzaghe.

So what do you guys think? Do you see Hopkins pulling another Winky or doing what Roach said which is make it an inside fight almost exclusively? Or a combination of both?

I have no idea. All I know is that Calzaghe will adapt to whatever BHop attempts. BHop WILL have some success but over 12 rounds he's gonna be soundly beaten whatever he tries.

I think we're going to see a mean , dirty Hopkins (I know, shocking). Hopkins is going to try to beat up Joe on the inside. Especially if Joe starts having success on the outside (doubt it, no one has THAT much sucess against Hopkins). Patient, one right hand at a time, get in , rough up, break down physically. Later on if he's being successful he might open up more. This is of course what I think Hopkins is thinking how the fight will go down.

If hopkins stings calzaghe with a nice straight right Calzaghe will unload on him.
People fail to take into account Joe's chin when calling this fight.

Hopkins lands straight right he gets hit by about 20 punches in two seconds.

Tries to hold after throwing a big punch Calzaghe will throw combinations out of the clinch like he always does. He will meet his match on the inside here. Hopkins better hope he's strong in this fight

I think you're wrong. Hopkins is one of the strongest men pfp I've seen in the ring, when he punches you and gets his octopus hold on you, you aren't going to throw ****. When the F has anyone seen Hopkins eat punches in bunches (not trying to rhyme here)? Let's be realistic here. If Joe C wins this fight, it's going to be extremely close and he's going to be pushed to the max. He has never faced a defensive fighter this good, not even close.

Calzaghe don't mind it rough on the inside and knows a few tricks of his own.

Hopkins is going to wear him down and stop him around the 11th after rounds and rounds of body work

His strategy should be 'try not to get destroyed by a superior fighter'.

The strategy is use the head, use the elbows, use the forearm.

This is what I see hopkins gameplan as. He is going to look for that right uppercut all night and while he is looking for it he will headbutt, clinch, push, and disrupt anything joe has. Hopkins has one of the best right uppercuts I have seen, but he rarely brings it out. Just watch the tito fight when hopkins had him doing a dance, that shot is wicked. Mikkel hurt joe with a right uppercut, expect hopkins to try to do the same. Wether or not he can land is another question. I dont see his straight right landing too much because joe seems like he rarely gets hit by the shot despite being a southpaw. Mikkel had trouble landing and he is really accurate. If I were to bet (which I will), I am definetly putting money on a joe victory. Hopkins is just too old sorry. The real money bet is wether it will be a joe stoppage or a joe decision.

This guy sums it up in a less cynical manner.

Calz is all about a rhythm so the way I see it, Hopkins will use any tactic he can to disrupt the pacing and make Calzaghe uncomfortable. If it means headbutting him or low blows when Joe Cortez is having one of his "where's the camera at?" moments then so be it.

I think he will look for single powerful counters and then hit hold and use his head alot.He will want as little as possible of actual boxing so if he does lose he has a better chance of calling it a robbery without being laughed at.

Yeah, i understand that JC likes to get into a rhythm but it's hard to get off if you are constantly having to chase. I think if Hopkins is always trying to be in the face of JC, what JC can do is simply take a few steps back and create room and just throw combinations. But if Hopkins is making JC chase, that puts JC in a more vulnerable spot where he might jump into a shot.

I personally would like to see the same strategy he used against Winky which is move around and force JC to chase but also intiate the action and get inside when he feels like doing so. So it would be a combination of both movement and inside fighting.
