I like Hopkins, but he's had 14 years to make a rematch against Jones happen, and all that he ever seems to do is talk about it. Tito wakes up one day and decides to make a comeback, and a fight against Jones is made practically overnight. What's up X?

    or

Is it Roy who keeps killing the rematch, prefering instead to fight opponents who are percieved to be easier to beat?

yeah but dont forget when they were in serious negoitiations....RJJ still had ego the size of a small country and wanted 60/40 and would not move from that...Hopking had just Whooped Tito and was on top of the boxing world....hop wanted 50/50 i believe and he did have the momentum....RJJ even though he had not had a big fight in forever still wanted more...im not saying either fighter didnt deserve what they wanted...but RJJ signing today is much different...hell hes got Koed by guys like Glen johnson and Tarver.......he knows hes not on top now, his ego has been humbled...

Totally different Situation!.......I guarantee. you Tito and RJJ would have nearly been inpossible to make when Tito was undefeated, mainly cuz Tito ws the craw and RJJs ego.....

    dippeer you got problems

but b-hop should of done every thing to get rjj in the ring and took the 60-40 spilt.

at the time rjj was still on top and p4p

top of P4p hs nothing too do with the split.....revenue for the fight ...in that case Floyd would be the highest paid boxer over Oscar...its all about marketability...hops never been a huge draw, but back then he did have the boxing spotlight...he dismantled a prime undefeated tito......RJJ had not had a big fight in forever....but his ego would not let either man budge!....50/50 would have been fair....they could have bet 10% for the winner out of pocket...or somthing crazy like that

Tito is an easier fight for more money. No brainer on Roy's part. I'm a huge Tito fan but he's a natural welterweight who has fought twice in the past 5 years, going against a much bigger opponent whose best years came at 168.

Jones is past it, but this is still a mismatch

Jones and Hopkins were supposedly in talks for a rematch recently, but it didn't happen. It seems like Jones/Hopkins II would have been a good matchup for both fighters, and for the fans.....I don't know about Jones/Trinidad though. I don't know if Trinidad could possibly have picked a worse matchup.

    100% agreed.

But I give Trinidad mad respect for fighting ANYONE on the face of the planet. He doesn't care about his limits he just attempts to fight anyone. Look him up on Boxrec..the names that hes been in there with is pretty impressive.

jecxbox, i agree with u....like tito or not...the dude has balls...he dont care he will get into the ring with anyone...!! Prior to him loosing to hop, he talked about climbing in with a prime RJJ...(would have been suicide IMO), but you cant deny his heart!

It's why I'll always respect Tito and why he'll always be on my all time favorites list. He came back after a two year layoff against a quality opponent, albeit one tailor made for him to look awesome against, in Mayorga, and then fought Wright. There needs to be more fighters like Tito who are willing to fight the best even when they could make millions fighting anybody. Tito could sell out MSG and put up PPV numbers against anyone but he didn't take the easy route

Ok, let me break it down for ya.

I am a fan of both Jones and Hopkins...so I can pretty much call this one unbiasly. And I will tell you, it was both of their ridiculous egos that made this fight NOT happen.

Jones said publicly that "60/40 Ill kick your ass" (my favorite boxing quote ever...)...but when they sat down to negotiate, he never offered more than 70/30. I could tell the world Id fight ya for free, but if I dont stipulate it in the contract, then its basically just talkin out my ass.

Hop wanted 50/50 and a catchweight (just like he gave Winky). Roy didnt want a catchweight. Maybe if Hopkins took the 70/30, then he could have gotten the catch...who knows...who cares.

This incantation of Jones would be a walk in the park for Bernard and as a fan of Roy, I DO NOT WANT TO SEE IT HAPPEN. It will be a sad end to a great, great career. At least with Tito, he will be favored and will probably just box his ears off for 12 rounds.

These were two different situations there bro.
