At least in his own mind, and in the minds of some on this board, but what great fighters has Hopkins beat that were in their prime and fighting at their natural weight? And I'm not trying to 'hate' here, I'm just curious to see the range of opinions.
The same can be said of MANY current and past fighters. We can dissect Mike Tyson and Joe Louis career and some will come to the same conclusion.
I never thought to highly of Hopkins untill he beat Tarver and then Winky. I always appreciated his skills but imo he hadn't beat a prime elite fighter in his weight untill he beat Tarver. It was hard to give him alot of credit against JT because he started so late and thought it was a draw.
Im not even gonna waste my time. This is getting old. Learn something about the sport. How many great fighters did Tyson beat in their prime? How many did Lewis? How many did Hagler (all naturally smaller men)? Blah, blah, blah. Anyone who questions Hopkins resume has no real boxing knowledge or has an agenda. Plain and simple. Let this **** rest, its getting old.
The truth is that when all is said and done, Hopkins resume will be best remembered for guy he beat outside of the 160 lbs division. His stint at 160 is not good enough to make him a top 3 MW of all time. Good thing he lost to Taylor, at least it forced him to move up and fight better competition. Had he won over Taylor, boxing fans would be on a treat for Hopkins vs "Sugar" Ray Allen 4.
One has to consider that he had to wait 'til age 36 before he got a shot at the big time. So he beat Tito, DLH, Tarver and Wright, all of whom were considered p4p top 10 or 15 when he fought them if i recall correctly, all in his late 30's or early 40's. Regardless of what weight he fought them at, that's pretty legendary to me. But being a legend is about more than facts and figures anyway. It's also about what people were expecting going into a fight. Against Tito and especially against Tarver, he wasn't "supposed to be able" to do what he did, but he damnwell got it done anyway. THAT is what being a legend is about IMO, being able to do what people don't think you can. It's also why many people still don't consider Floyd Mayweather a legend yet.
glen is a very good fighter, but if your talking true GREAT fighters... then this whole thing is stupid. how many fighters even FIGHT great fighters, let alone PRIME great fighters at their best weight???
