Here's a guy who on one hand is a role model to fighters, he keeps in shape, he's had a great career, is well preserved and has a genuine love for boxing. But on the other hand he's a racist who knows all of the dirty tricks in the book and thinks that Australia is in Europe. I can't decide on the guy really, what are your thoughts?
I dont know I normally dislike dirty fighters but hopkins is a old school g survivor boxer, I respect him highly. I think people will rate him rightly after everything is done. Itsjust that he fights dirty, but the man is a technical genius in the ring that can beat all at 160 throughout history. Definitely a atg and I hope he wins tonight, but my money is on pascal ud.
I know he's not perfect outside of the ring but I love his mentality in the ring. He breaks his opponents down mentally then beats them physically. His fight against Tito is my favorite. He's always composed and calculated. He's dirty but his fouls never changed the tide of a fight IMO. Definitely a hard man I know.
I respect him massively for his achievements and prolonged career coupled with insane conditioning. However, i think he is a massive **** who i want to see get KTFO every time i see him fight.
And for all the **** talking he does which so many people stand in awe of...most of it is utter, utter bollocks. As that horsehead guy above said, the IQ of a dog. Thats an insult to dogs everywhere.
He trained with Roach to prepare for the Calzaghe bout. He just wanted to get under his skin and that is all. When he threw the Puerto Rican flag around it was to get the Tito fans to watch the fight. He said it himself.
I think the same about him. He actually seems to be a pretty friendly, knowledgeable guy when he's not trash talking. I can't agree with admiring him as a boxer, though. His "performance" against RJJ was absolutely disgraceful.
What about the Tito or Pavlik fights? You can't not admire the man for those kind of performances, coupled with a superb run of title defences at middleweight and his longevity in the sport.
