It was actually you need to fight like a black fighter, or something along those lines. And yes, plenty of people have noticed and there are several other threads with innumerable posters throwing hissy fits about what is racist, what isn't racist, and it's getting very tedious already. Not everybody sees the world as a bunch of happy, shiny, multi cultural people holding hands, this really should not be shocking news to anybody but evidently it is.

I heard Hopkins tell Pavlik, "you got to learn to fight like a black fighter.
I heard your corner telling you on the TV screen to dip. You have to learn to fight slippery. Lean to the side like this and dip..."......something to that type of effect.

Pavlik was just fighting straight, and was'nt leaning or dipping to one way or the other, which is what made him so easy for Hopkins to dimantle.
    Hopkins told Pavlik as much!

Props to Hopkins for giving Pavlik a hard nosed pep talk at the end of their fight!

Hopkins told Pavlik, "you can either let this fight destroy you, or you can get better from it.......I'm going to be on your ass to get better!"

Yeah.... I thought that was class for Hops to do. Hope Pavlik was listening!! :good

  5. Did Hopkins say that? Hmmm....I don't think Pavlik fights like a black fighter, he lacks the dynamic technique imo. He's very orthodox even if it works.

Didn't he say, "You need to learn to fight like a black fighter, bend your knees and hop around more?" That's what I caught but I seen it on a damn vid stream that was broken up quite a bit. I'm hopin' Pavlik chooses to try n' fight like that in the future. I know B-Hop said, "If you learn to do that you will be one bad son of a *****." I thought it was kinda cool over all actually. I've no doubt he meant well, anyway.

Unfortunate statement, but it takes nothing away from one of the sport's outstanding performances in some time.

There's plenty that can be discussed and made of what Hopkins said, but by itself I don't think it's a big deal.

I don't mind the statement one bit. I do mind however wat the media response would be if a white man said something along these lines; he'd by lynched.

He said to Pavlik "you need to fight more like a black fighter. I'm talking from a cultural standpoint".

Maybe it was un-PC and a bit stereotypical, but he was very respectful to Pavlik regardless.

Hopkins is a piece of garbage if that is what he said.

Seeing this part of the comment makes what Hopkins said a lot more 'workable,' in my mind.

Because Hopkins is talking about the perception of what a black fighter is, and how a black fighter is perceived to fight, and not about racial characteristics themselves. It's like talking about a Philly fighter. Everyone knows what that implies, that style.

I didn't have a lot of problem with what BHop said before, and now I have no problem with it.

Thanks, TS, for the rest of the quote.

I guess there's posters around here that dont actually read what others have to say on a thread, and just respond to the thread title.

This is very much like the plot of Rocky III (sans Mr. T). I predict an awkward beach hug between the two of them sometime in the next 8-12 months.

Yes It was very much like Rocky 3, with Balboa hooking up with Creed (the whole slow crude white guy with the slick black guy). Also this PC **** has gotten so out of control in the past 15 years it's ridiculous in most cases.

Allot of folks that grew up in mixed areas in the 80's busted each others nuts, across ethnic and race lines, and it was all good for the most part, not many took it to heart, or was it meant in malice.

There was nothing wrong with what Bhops said, I genuinely believe he likes Kelly.
