It seems clear that Hopkins - Roy Jones II won't happen now. Hopkins plans are spoiled, but there's still another old legend out there for him to dance with. Yep, James 'light's out' Toney. And yes, I'm serious. Hear me out: Toney may not be such a mainstream star as Roy Jones, but no matter how old or/and past their best Hopkins and Toney are, I'm sure this match-up would generate the interest of most boxing fans - at least the ones who grew up with these fighters in the 90s. Of course this fight would be irrelevant for boxing (just like Roy-Hopkins II) and the HW division, but it would still be a lot of fun. Just imagine the press conerences - 'Hopkins ain't old-school, he's just an old fool!'..

Toney has already called out Hopkins lately. He has no respect for B-Hop and he's desperate for a big fight. On the other side, Hopkins has stated he wants to move up to the HW division after the RJJ rematch. I think the biggest obstacle why this fight never happened earlier was the weight difference, but Toney is a natural SMW/LHW who started at MW - just like Hopkins. If Hopkins moved up to HW it would be possible. Maybe at a catchweight of 212lbs. Toney weighed in at a decent 217lbs for his last fight, and reportedly he's lost some more since then. Make it happen. It makes just as much (little?) sense as Hopkins-RJJ II!

And it would be marketeable too. It could be billed as a fight between the last old-school fighters left in the game an so on - the 24/7 would be hilarious..

    What do you think?

A 24/7 would not be entertaining. Two **** talkers, who have no wit. One is terribly uneducated, the other is punch drunk and the viewers would need subtitles.

    Toney: "Im'aknockthatmother****ersgaptoothedheadoff"
Hopkins: "He gon' knock Bernard Hopkins head off?"
    Toney: "Ibeathimlikethatwhiteboydid"
Hopkins: "He gon' beat Bernard Hopkins like that white boy did?"

    Ugh.

wow this would be a horrible fight...it would have been cool if it happened like 12 years ago. But now Toney is a fat slob.

    Roy Jones
    James Toney
    Bernard Hopkins

In one year these fighters will be left the sport, it's gonna be sad. These guys were amazing boxers.

Do you really think Hopkins can make 212 pounds....lmao Hopkins would look like Schwarzenegger if he got that high.

good fight. Toney in shape and weighing about 215 would be trouble for Hopkins moving up to heavyweight. I doubt Bernard would fight Toney. Can you imagine the trash talking?

I give Hopkins and James more credit than Roy. Roy had the better skills but those other two fought everyone and improved as they got older and used experience. Roy when he started to diminish (like James and Bernard also did), Roy did not adjust, but those two did adjust well. That is the mark of a great fighter.

There is no chance in hell this fight is happening. It means absolutely nothing what is Toney like 40 or 41 now?

Bernard never in his life would make 210 pounds of muscle.....stop being ridiculous. Unless Toney sheds like 30 pounds of fat then there's a chance of a fat, but even then it means nothing.

Hopkins don't have to make 212lbs, Toney has to! It's not impossible. Hopkins stated he wants to move up to the HW division, meaning he intends to fight above 200lbs. I could imagine Hopkins entering the ring around 205lbs.

If Toney boiled down to Cruiser, Hopkins would dance his way to a UD. He's much fitter and lived the healthier lifestyle obviously.

I don't think it makes as much sense as the RJJ rematch DID and I think there are better options that are worth more in the bank and more in the legacy for Hopkins...but, I admit I'd be pretty damned interested in that fight...and the lead up that would happen. I always thought it would've been great if these guys could've met years ago.

Hopkins doesn't even have to make 210lbs, let alone 210lbs of pure muscle! Hopkins himself stated he wanted to fight at HW, and he won't step up to the HW division while only weighing 185lbs. I could see Hopkins entering the ring weighing around 205lbs while being in reasonable shape.

And so what if Toney is 41 years old and past his best - Roy Jones is 40 and it's evident that he's FAR past his best too. Hopkins-Roy Jones II didn't mean **** either, yet the boxing world wanted to see it. If Toney and Hopkins would fight each other I bet you would tune in too.
