Hopkins & Toney - Kings of Chin & Defence. BUT, can they go on without being stopped?

Two of my favourite ever fighters. The two best chins IMO and two of the best defences of this era.

Two men now over 40 years old.

    Toney is fighting at heavyweight.
Hopkins seems determined to keep on fighting the very best guys in the weights around him.

Hopkins clearly had stamina issues due to his age in the Calzaghe fight.
The last time Toney went 12 rounds with a quality heavyweight (the 2nd Peter fight), he looked a shadow of his former self.

Surely it is inevitable that as these guys show no intentions of retiring anytime soon, the unstoppables will be stopped???

From a knockout perspective, Hopkins will be kayoed by Pavlik and Toney will the moment he fights a Euro with decent power.

No - both will finish their careers with no KO's or TKO's against them.

Hopkins doesn't have that many more fights in him and Pavlik's not going to KO him.

Not many Heavies want to fight Toney and the ones that do have a hard time with him anyway.

I just don't see it happening.

A Euro...why are you making it a continental argument...???

You are taking the classic position of inferior competition in Europe and trying to turn it around...???

...when someone has a great record from Europe, it is oftentimes dismissed in the U.S, due to the fighter not having fought anybody.

According to you however, the reason Toney has never been stopped has become clear...he hasn't been fighting in Europe...

    LennoxGOAT you know sh*t.

Hopkins is likely to finish unstopped. It would not surprise me to see Toney stopped, when you combine both his age and his fitness.

    Edit: Good thread.

Hopkins will not be stopped IMO. James is clearly slipping and much more stationary then Hopkins and he's fighting at heavy. I see James fighting until he gets stopped, which if given a top level heavy, will probably happen within the next 2 or 3 years.

So no-one sees Hopkins's very apparent lack of stamina he showed in the Calzaghe fight meaning he could be stopped late on by the ref if he doesn't have the energy to fire back and keep the guy off him? Is this not possible v a young, fresh, explosive fighter?

i can see hopkins getting stopped by pavlik, he is in the position at his age where every fight could see his ability suddenly disappear, and you don't want that to happen against a puncher like pavlik.he should still have enough tricks to last the twelve though.
toney seems to be some sort of immoveable object, can't pictrure him flat on his back.

I worry for Hopkins and I really want him to quit boxing. I can see Pavlik TKO him but nobody will KO him.

If Toney fights Wlad or Vitali he'll be stopped, KO'd by Wlad, TKO'd by Vitali

Eventually, if they keep fighting, yes. Hopkins is slick and defensive, but if someone forces him to fight at a fast pace, then a fatigued Hopkins may get stopped. I thought he was tired against Calzaghe.

Toney, despite his slick moves and ridiculous ability to absorb shots, he stays in one place for most of the time, and still takes his share of leather. He's facing bigger, stronger HWs. Sadly, I see Toney fighting on for way too long, he'll eventually get stopped, and he may end up with brain damage.
