For the Pavlik fight Hopkins trained like Calzaghe always trains. OLD SCHOOL.

No weights, no scientific nutrionists and specialized trainers.

Just good old fashioned morning roadwork and afternoon gym work with real boxing trainers. The way Hopkins used to train all the time.

As a result no gassing like in the last fight.

Or maybe bernard didn't gas as he was able to control the tempo of the fight and didn't fight someone who could take him out of his comfort zone?

I noticed he didnt look as muscular last night ,he definately looked sleaker which is way better.........WEights and boxing can sometimes be bad because weights tear muscles inward while aeorbic or boxing type of workouts tear muscle outwords

There have been several articles on Boxing website leading up to the fight that detailed his training. Check out a few of them. Basically his routine for Pavlik in Miami was as follows.

3 miles on the beach in the morning.

2 hours in the gym in the afternoon. All classic boxing training: Bag work, sparring, floor work.

The HBO video leading up to the fight provided some glimpses.

It will be interesting to see. I still believe Calzaghe will beat him; however, Hopkins won't gas as much if he trains old school.

    well done.

'gassing' is sometimes an ignorant excuse for not understanding what happens in a fight. this, in my opinion, is exactly that type of example.

    jesus..it's not about "old school".

hopkins, like calzaghe, has always been in prime, prime condition for any fight.

but what happens in the fight - and that will relate to age too more often than not - can take the wind out of you no matter how well you're prepared.

Exactly ,Calzaghe didnt allow Bernard to control his pace where as Kelly did .............. Its simply a matter of allowing or not allowing Bernard to dictate

It is about relevant training that works for boxing. Calzaghe has always utilized the traditional methods and by working hard at them he never gasses. Hopkins used to use the classic methods (old school) and he never gassed. When he switched, there was a change. Now that he went back, he was strong over 12 again.

Maybe the different training methods had an impact. Certain training works for some people whilst other training works best for others. If Hopkins trained a certain way all his boxing life and it worked for him it was silly for him to change. Why change if it 'aint broke.

However Calzaghe's tactics also played a large part in Hopkins "gassing".

The Calzaghe fight was the first Hopkins fight in ages were Bernard was not allowed to control the pace of the fight. This fact should not be over looked.
