not in the states he wasnt. literally no casual fan in the states knew him.
and if no-one knows you, you dont sell PPV and the networks aren't onboard

why do you think fighters who are based outside of the US and dont come here to fight rarely get defining fights against higher profile opponents?

I have a lot of friends here in America who are complete casual fans, that only buy big PPV fights, still don't know much about Joe. Even after he killed the American legends.

    thats exactly right
in britain, calzaghe will be remembered and talked about for years to come, but in the states few will remember him

I am from england and noone I knew had heard of him until he was picking up Kessler and then Bhops/Roy.

Every other fight before that he was an equivalent to CHannel 5's Nathan Cleverly today, a name you'd see on a news website occasionally but not know anything about.

BS!!! BS, BS, BS, BS!!! Hopkins would never turn down a Calzaghe rematch just cause there's a guy in the middle called Clerverly who holds the WBO LHWT strap. This is the second rumour about Hopkins next fight after Shumenov and it is nothing but horse s***! The Brits love to smash titles like these stories in their newspapers but nobody really believes in it! Why would B'Nard at this stage of his career refuse such a proposal? He himself said that he is opened for people ( with capital P) who want to make it and put his name in their resumé.

Hopkins has a problem with King screwing him, as well as DiBella, what makes you think he would accept three million when Calzaghe was going to make more money? Who was Calzaghe? Calzaghe's career defining fight was an old Hopkins who many people thought won the fight. Why accept three when the opponent is getting more than three. The only fight where Hopkins was at fault for not happening was the Jones rematch when it matter. Hopkins wanted 50/50, but Jones had beat him handily when they fought originally. That is the only fight where Hopkins should have taken less.

he was offered a career high payday, it would have been in america & showtime were on board. confirmed by jay larkin.

it's also true that ****** has been chasing b-hop for clev & wanted to put it on in the millennium stadium. clev's next fight should be announced on monday but it won't be b-hop.

amazing how cal zealots say hopkins turned down the cal fight that he actually asked proper money for, when its cal, only cal, solely and always Cal who actually turned down the hopkins rematch.

    kettle pot black.

Yeah we know that Hopkins backed out against Calzaghe years ago, his fans dont let us forget that, but I havent read anything about Hopkins not fighting Cleverley.
I knew fans would go on about Hopkins turning Calzaghe down and then fighting Hakkar for alot less. I admit as a fan I knew of Hopkins, I knew of Calzaghe and knew he was a big threat and you cant blame Hopkins for not wanting it at that time, he was probably still wanting the De La Hoya fight and maybe didnt want to gain the weight at that time.
Hopkins fought him in the end.
As for Cleverley, I just dont think he is on Hopkins radar and who can blame Hopkins?

As far as I understood it, B'Nard wants Calzaghe to come out of his "rocking chair" rather than face his protegé Nathan Clerverly and it was B'Nard live on Sky TV that proposed a three men agreement, not Frank W...:think
