    Bernard Hopkins

Hopkins loses in his debut to the mighty Clifton Mitchell

Hopkins fights Roy Jones and loses comprehensivly. 116-112 x 3

Hopkins travels abroad for the first and only time in his career and only manages a draw against the mighty Segundo Mercado(Who??)

Hopkins loses back to back to Jermain Taylor in a pair of snoozefests.

Hopkins fights Joe Calzaghe with home advantage and loses comprehensivly

Can Joe Calzaghe match any of that?? Answer no he just keep winning! :happy

By Americans who will always rate an American higher than a foreigner. It`s not rocket science.

Let's be fair, he clearly beat Taylor in one of the fights, can't remember which one. He drew with Mercado, who was actually a very decent fighter, over in Columbia when I'm pretty sure he'd done enough to win, and early in his career. Also note he travelled ABROAD, something Calzaghe failed to do until the B-Hop fight. And he didn't was comprehensively, I thought he lost but only because of Hopkins depleting stamina. It wasn't comprehensive at all, it was close but clear enough.

Nobody gives a **** about him losing his debut, and it was Clinton Mitchell. Alexis Arguello lost his debut aswell, does that make him a **** fighter?

Losing to Roy Jones is no shame at all. This was before either were champions aswell as they were fighting for their first belt, and I'm pretty sure Calzaghe would of lost to RJJ at that stage, in fact I'm certain he would and more comprehensively.

I'm a Calzaghe fan myself, a bit anyway - I used to be a big fan of his before people starting over-rating him so much - but Hopkins is by far the better and more established fighter with a vastly better resume.

I think I give Hopkins the slight edge due to his wins at LHW, otherwise there isnt much in it

    Dumb ass thread.

Hopkins was 43 years old when he and Cal fight and dpending on what you like depends on who won it. Those slapping punches Cal landed more of no doubt but Hopkins landed the more effective shots. I agree he was out worked but beaten, no.

Sorry hating author, a guy who's never been cut and and who's opposition kills most of those on Calazaghes resume doesn't rank past him regardless of what happened in their albeit LATE fight. As mentioned in another thread, Bernard was the consensus LINEAR middleweight champion. Calazaghe was Not that(super middleweight) until he fought Lacy.

The thread isnt the greatest but Calzaghe was 36 when he beat Hopkins, who had just beaten Winky Wright, and it was in the USA and at a new weight class so I still rate that win for Calzaghe

oh no here we go again more calzaghe is the greatest fighter in the last 25yrs bull**** ,hes a very good fighter one of the best today but his resume is not one of an all time great if you would of said jc the best suppermiddle weight in history I would agree cause it has been a **** poor division with no one staying there to long while he has defended his wbogus title countless times against bums then when he finally starts beatin good people loads of people are saying he is as good as sugar ray robinson stop overrating him hes very good but not great and I aint no yank im english with no bias as I have followed his entire career
