This would be an epic match up.

I favor haglers superior work rate and brutal atatck to Hopkins defensive mastery.

hagler better in both atg and h2h.

Funny thing is Hagler was actually underrated for most of his career. Certainly underappreciated. But overrated? No way in hell. He's one of the best to ever lace up gloves.

Hopkins has proved his greatness, but...

    Hagler over Hopkins in status.
Hagler over Hopkins in a 160 matchup.

I am tempted to give Hopkins as both answers now. H2H I definitely think he had the style and the physical attributes to beat Marvin, and Hopkins's achievements I think give him the edge p4p as well. Close call though.

I really do not know who ranks higher pound for pound as Hopkins has been around for a long time. I think they are about equal.

Hagler would beat Hopkins up in a mythical matchup.

A prime Hagler would give Hopkins a lot of problems. I saw a young Hagler fight, I think he was just in his 20's then, he was like tyson..fast hands and footwork as well..not to mention for his infighting abilities and granite chin.

I love Bernard Hopkins, but I tend to think Hagler still edges him out in both of these, although not by much.

Hagler, in his day, was a wonder to behold. Smart, talented, and mean as all hell. He is for sure the greatest southpaw of all time to me. He also beat everyone.

But I would not bet on a fight between the two.

No way, Hagler is tougher. He would stay on top of Hopkins and get the better of most exchanges.

Hagler's reach is the same as Hopkins's, despite being the shorter man, and he had the better jab (and the southpaw jab at that) by a fair margin, so I don't think Hopkins's size advantage would play into this fight much.

I think head-to-head it's pretty much even money, tough fight to call. I'd favor Hagler slightly for reasons I've explained before.

In a P4P sense, it's just as tough to call. Hagler was clearly the more accomplished MW, and the better one IMO, while Hopkins has proven his longevity and proven his status at higher weights, primarily in the twilight of his career. Impressive stuff, but that more or less evens out the playing field the way I see it, as Hagler had the more dominant prime.

The P4P angle is very close but the H2H could well be decided by Hopkins' ring intelligence, if Hagler had a weakness it was his lack of adaptability.

Pound for pound it is equal.Hagler beats Hopkins up in a mythical matchup. Hagler was fighting in an era with much better and tougher fighters. The man was a beast and he will just keep coming. Bad matchup for Hopkins. Hagler has the better jab and is more effective on the inside. It is very common that just after a great performance of a specific lfighter ike last weekend, the fans tend to overrate who that fighter.
