At 160 in 2010, say bhop is coming off his big win against Roy part two with a young strifing Margarito before he took on Manny. Who wins? Hopkins had good defense could go for the kayo punch like against Tarver or odlh. Plus Tony was very hungry and face first, mostly swarming.
A big part of why Tony was successful at 147 was because he had a pretty good size advantage and work rate.. He lost to guys with similar skill set and size(Paul Williams), guys who were bigger(Daniel Santos), guys whom had a significant speed and power advantage(juiced Mosley, Pacquiao). Hopkins was very big and faster than Tony.. That fight would look similar to Hopkins vs Pavlik and I think Hopkins would actually KO Tony..
BHop was a very big middleweight to begin with. Margarito was a very big welterweight. Huge size and skill difference. I fancy Hopkins to stop him late with those razor sharp counter rights. An iron chin can only withstand so much from the much bigger punchers around.
Hopkins fighting in to his 40’s raises doubt that he was clean too, then he couldn’t play fair if he was losing, either dove out the ring or feigned an illegal blow
Hopkins wins, but it would be competitive if they were of the same weight class. People are very dismissive of Margarito because he was an was an attrition fighter. The facts are that he did beat the snot out of Miguel Cotto and he stopped Sergio Martinez as well at 147 lbs. Somebody mentioned Paul Williams and forget that Margarito took a bunch of the late rounds to make that fight close, its not inconcievable that fight could have been ruled a draw. Its never mentioned by anyone here because they are just not educated on matters of Margarito and his career. Let me educate you, going into the Mosley fight the rumors swirling in the days before the fight that Margarito was having issues with weight. Margarito had outgrown 147 lbs by then and it pained him to get down to 147 lbs which is why we saw what we did, Margarito with virtually nothing in the tank. The glove issue had nothing to do with it, man had no energy in the tank. Hopkins to big for Margarito at 160 lbs, but if they were of the same weight say if Hopkins was a welterweight, thats not a gimme fight for Hopkins.
