He beat Kessler who is a much better fighter than Pavlik. Calzaghe would have Pavlik very confused by his footwork and angles, and due to his higher punch output would probably have pavliks face a mess by the end!

Why the tone to the OP? Her first post and I thought she made some very good points.

Joe won the fight by a couple of rounds imo.
If Hopkins takes other people's weapons away surely its a testament to Joe that he beat him with a more reduced work rate than normal. Joe landed a lot more on Hopkins than any other fighter (compubox stats mean little but its still a fact).
For the first few rounds the fight was going Hopkins way, he had the knockdown, he slowed the fight down by clinching after throwing.
Joe adapted his tactics and put Hopkins out of his comfort zone and imo could have stopped him late (not ko, I think the ref would have stopped it) had Hopkins not bought himself a 5 min rest.
Hopkins is a smart fighter so if the fight is not going his way he will try to adjust, against Joe he could not do that. Mid to Late rounds he had abandoned his coy gameplan and had to go looking for Joe as he felt he was behind and roache was telling him in the corner he needed to do more.

The fight for a while went Hopkins way and Calzaghe's output was reduced yet he still out adjusted Hopkins on his way to victory.
The Hopkins of last night would never show up to a Joe fight as the aggression Hopkins showed would play into Joe's hands. If that Hopkins fought Joe I think Joe stops him.

don't listen to him sarah. He's just mad that a girl knows more about boxing than him, and that his homeboy got his ass whipped by a whiteboy.

Hopkins proves how great he was even in his old age (he pulled something out the bag against a prime p4p guy) and all we get is thread after thread about Calzaghe. Great.

Show Hopkins (the boxer) some respect please. His win last night eclipsed anything Joe ever did and popkins is 43 years old. Credit to him!

He blew his chance at beating a prime p4p top ten guy - he missed a great opportunity. Hopkins stepped in that ring last night - him and him alone. Joe continued the habit of his career (with the exception of Lacy, Kessler).

Give 44 year old Hopkins - a boxer willing to take great risk - some credit instead of harping on about Calzaghe who was never willing to take the fight when it was offered.

Last night was an OUSTANDING PERFOMANCE BY BHOP. Do you idiots know anything about boxing? Do you mother****ers think every fighter gives the same performance every night. Bernard impressed his damn self last night. He probably didnt think he could of done what he did. That fight dont mean **** about the Bhop Calzaghe beat. Fighters fight with a different level of energy or enthusiasm every god damn night. Fighters have off nights. Fighters have good nights. Fighters have great nights. Bhop had a great night against a good not overhyped fighter. If you or Calzaghe thinks he can do the same STFU and fight Pavlik or anybody else. DO IT or STFU. Euro clowns.

Hopkins is past his prime, but still capable of defeating many top fighters.

    Hopkins' prime was from 1998-2004.
