When I watched the fight live having had a few beers I scored in clearly for Calzaghe, I probably only gave Hopkins 3-4 rounds. Having watched the fight since then with the benefit of slow mo's and replays I scored it narrowly for Hopkins. Alot of the shots that seemed to land for Calzaghe either missed by a narrow margin or were blocked by gloves, shoulders and elbows. Hopkins also landed a lot of very sneeky right hands on the inside which were very hard to see. While I now have Hopkins winning I have no problem with people scoring the fight for Calzaghe because that was my first impression and in terms of ring general ship Calzaghe bossed the fight. He may not have landed as consistently as it first seemed but he was in control of the fight even when he was being out scored. Very difficult fight to score.
I never said it wasn't close. I said, it was a clear 7-5 victory in my eyes which made it 114-113, or possibly 115-112. Just because the fight was that close doesn't mean it can go the other way, in my eyes. Boxing fans use that logic and it's terrible. I'm not saying this fight would be IMPOSSIBLE to score for Hopkins, some people did. What I'm saying is, 7-5 Calzaghe does not = 7-5 Hopkins just because it was close.
Joe edged it out ,but honestly how could anyone give Hopkins that fight for what he pulled in the later rds ..
This content is protected . I understand that Hopkins is an American legend that people want to see as an iconic figure. America love a reformist and Hopkins as a former robber turned world champ is just the story that wins Americas hearts but... This content is protected 1. Calzaghe landed more than 100 punches than Hopkins throughout the fight. 2. Contrary to what people want to believe, Calzaghe also made Hopkins miss more 3. All round punch percentages, Calzaghe finished ahead of Hopkins 4. Calzaghe outlanded Hopkins in every round 5. A Byrd who scored for Hopkins it appears has a history for bad scorecards. Type in Adalaide Byrd in Google and see what comes up for yourself, still here are some little things for you to look at a. A Byrd was the only judge out of the 3 scoring judges that had Mack ahead against Cloud b. The K Pavlik - A Lopez fight was scored 98-92, 99-91 by the other 2 judges, A Byrd scored it 95-95 c. A Byrd was one of the judges that had Morales a 4 point loser against Maidana d. In the S Aydin vs S Ouali fight, the other 2 judges scored clearly for Aydin. Byrd scored for Ouali e. The J Almaraz/C Tyler fight was scored a Maj-Dec all because of one judge, guess which? A Byrd f. The A DeMarco/J Reyes fight was a SD. Guess who the odd judge out was? A Byrd. g. The R Torres - M Arnaoutis fight was a close fight, a point either way to 2 judges but a wide result scored by Byrd h. In the A Pryor Jr/D Stanislavjevic SD, guess who the odd judge out was? You guessed it... A Byrd i. The W Ferguson/J Lopez SD, guess who the odd judge out was? You guessed it... A Byrd I think thats enough for you to get the picture with Byrd. Remember the other 2 judges scored clearly for Calzaghe 6. Calzaghe beat Hopkins in America, at a new weight with 3 American judges and Cortez as ref. 7. Calzaghe scored the single highest score card against Hopkins than anyone previous 116-111. 8. The 2 judges that scored for Calzaghe agreed on 9 of the rounds 9. Calzaghe landed more on Hopkins than anyone ever. Now I know there will be a flood of people coming on here noting Hopkins scoring a flash KD in the first round, and I agree that Hopkins did win a few rounds even when he didnt land as often, but people are mad if they think Calzaghe won on workrate, Calzaghe won because he was able to land his left more often than Hopkins could land his right. Calzaghe finished the stronger and took away the moments Hopkins likes down the stretch. Other thoughts, If Hopkins thought he was winning, do you think he would have been looking for time out and would bother trying to get points deducted off of Calzaghe, of course he wouldnt, Hopkins knew he was losing. What I do note is that nobody seems to mind Hopkins lost to Taylor. In the first Hopkins/Taylor fight, Jermaine was badly hurt and Hopkins looked the stronger at the end, yet it seems to upset alot of these people that Calzaghe beat Hopkins. Appears very biased.
long time no see old friend/arch nemesis! this must be one of your shorter posts ever!!!:rofl but that's all kool. I of course disagree, but good to see you again!:rasta
this, EASILY. MOST (not all) who think calzaghe won have never even been in a real fight or boxing match. Hopkins made it look easy, eve while he was tired.
It wasnt on Sky Sports and one of the commentators was R Woodhall (forget the other) and he felt Calzaghe had done enough, so stop telling porkys
Salutions :thumbsup Couldnt resist it What an outlandish statement and completely false tell me other than in the first round where Hopkins scored the KD and at the end of round 7 (a round I think Hopkins lost), what are all these other big shots Hopkins landed? Round 1 KD wasnt a massive punch, it just caught him square on and the punch at the end of round 7 was enhanced by an illegal headbutt. Calzaghe landed many solid shots throughout, just people point to Hopkins shots as there were few and memorable for that reason, in my opinion
Hopkins won Imho. The score I Had was 115-112. Hopkins controled the pace of the fight. Also, B-Hop landed the meaniful punches and ring generalship. THE knockdown by Hopkins also proved volumes as well.
Are you ******ed? That statement lost me. Hopkins was backing up the entire fight and throwing 1/2 the punches. It was a joke.
