I would never lose to a white boy, crowed Bernard Hopkins to Joe Calzaghe at an event to promote their light heavyweight title fight. In fact, he yelled it four times in front of a multitude of journalists. There was no Don Imus or Michael Richards treatment for Hopkins, of course due to the double standards in the politically correct sports world. But Calzaghe, who never lost his cool or responded in kind, doled out a more satisfying punishment on that saturday night in Vegas. In front of an HBO audience and celebrities such as Katherine Zeta Jones, Tom Jones, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jay Z and Whitney Houston, Calzaghe won a relatively easy decision against Hopkins. The Welsh Dragon improved to 45-0 and cemented his status as one of the best fighters of all time. The real capper of the night came from the usually reserved Calzaghe when asked if Hopkins had said anything to him after the fight. He didnt say much, Joe said, grinning triumphantly, because hed just gotten his ass kicked by a white guy. :hi:
Hopkins dropped a close decision in an ugly fight. Joe Calzaghe's response to Hopkins 'white boy' claim, was classy. "I won't lose to a white boy either, or a green boy, or a brown boy, or a purple boy."
I think Bhop lost that fight going into it because of the stupid **** he was saying. The only way for old man Bhop to win was to KO Joe. TBH, I had Bhop winning the fight over the "Welsh Dragon" in one of the worse fights I have ever seen by two "elite" fighters not in the heavyweight division.
:huhHow can you be considered as ATG if your best win was against Kessler nad a 43 year old who you beat by SD? DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT JC KICKED HOPKINS ASS:think
37 year old past-prime Calzaghe who's best prime attributes were workrate, speed and fitness beat a still high performing chess master.
joe calzaghe would always have been a very difficult fight for hopkins, due to joe's high workrate and fast pace. hopkins likes to box at a slower pace and pick his shots, calzaghe just swarmed him and hopkins could'nt deal with him. thats why he kept complaining about the low shots, just to get a little break.
Huge double standard. If Calzaghe said the same thing, he would never be shown on TV again. One of the biggest things wrong in the world today.
Atg Sir Joe calzaghe "White boy" made bhop ATG look like a right tool. Before and after the fight. Even having roach and Naz in the corner didn't help.
Of course it is a double standard. Black people use to be slaves to white people in America. That would be all over the news in America.
Stop sucking sour grapes...... Your trying to find excuses, Calzaghe was clean when boxing, its after a boxer stops that its hard for them to find themselves after most of their life has been in boxing, Its like going from everything to nothing. Hatton and De La Hoya are 2 other examples. Get a grip will ya :deal
