Joe Cortez is going to deduct a point for low blows.

    you're right.

it's the first half he has a problem with. someone should remind hopkins and his fans that a fight lasts 12 rounds, not just the final 6. that's why taylor got the first decision. :yep

Joe is going to need to deduct 12 of them so the fight can be a draw.

In all seriousness, this is one of the most fascinating aspects of this fight. Hopkins usually doesn't NEED to do much for the first six rounds, because he has so much better stamina than his typical opponent, that he is much fresher down the stretch.

Calzaghe is one man whose stamina is just as exceptional as Hopkins, which means Hopkins will need to turn things up earlier than he often does. However, I suspect Calzaghe himself will start more slowly than we are accustomed to seeing, and despite the insane rants from some of the Calzaghe faithful, I reckon Joe realizes what he is up against, and will proceed with the utmost caution and respect.

Huge disparity in competition and mainstream recognition. Hopkins was carried back into the middleweight scene by the likes of Butch Lewis, Michael Spinks, Don King and Golden Boy... He has fought on Showtime, HBO, at the MGM Garden, MSG, Mandalay Bay... Calzaghe fought WBO contenders in Great Britain and despite having had a terrific start against Eubank ( who was really a mainstream attraction all over), he basically fought on Sky Sports ( "War of the Worls" against Reid), ITV Sports, Showtime here and there ( against McIntyre in the undercard of Tyson-Nielsen, against Starie in the undercard of Tyson-Francis, against Brewer, Mitchell, Woodhall) - he really appeared on the global scene against Lacy in 2005 ( Showtime), Bika, Manfredo and Kessler ( HBO).
They are accomplished with so many successful defenses of their titles, but you have to see... Hopkins was facing Tito in MSG and Oscar in Vegas from 2001-2004 and Calzaghe was facing Mario Veit, Brewer and Mitchell in Cardiff and Salem in Scotland, in that period. Now, Calzaghe is definitely on the upside of things and Hops is way past his best.

    I voted Hopkins.
But JC is still goin to win on april 19th
And he was always going to beat him. Only fighter in his prime I don''t see JC beating is RJJ (in that weight-area, of course, lol)

(and of course a two-handed Kessler, but that is another discussion:)

Calzaghe is great fighter, but Hopkins has acomplished alot more in my opinion.... Although I think Calzaghe will win the fight due to his pressure and punch output...If Taylor can do it, Calzaghe can for sure. Hopkins is very sneaky with his right hands, you never know... I just dont see Hopkins beating Joe, if im wrong i will be the first to admit, because i want Hopkins to win

    Hopkins easily.

It's such a no-brainer. Must you make a thread about this?
