Now this is a fight I would definitely like to see now after seeing Hopkins performance tonight.. Great footwork, combinations, and speed.. Showed us a little bit of the old Hopkins.. Would be a real test for Dawson as well.. I'd much rather see this than Hopkins fighting the winner of Calzaghe/Jones Jr..
i want to see dawson vs hopkins. I dont care about Hopkins fighting a faded Roy or another boring match against calzaghi.
Dawson wins this easily. It's about styles for Hopkins at this point. Give him a slow handed, predictable guy and he eats them up. Give him a fast handed guy who can put together combinations and get off first and you keep him on the defensive and he loses based on lack of activity. It's that simple after watching his latest fight. At least for me.
This would be a very good fight, I think, especially if Hopkins comes in the form he came in against Pavlik. I think Hopkins would have a good chance of stopping him. Dawson would have to perform at least as well as he performed against Tarver to avoid a stoppage loss and to ensure he beat Hopkins in a close fight, though, I think. The Dawson that fought Johnson or Adamek would very likely get knocked out early, in my view.
Dawson's hands come out way too fast for Hopkins. Plus, Dawson is not a stationary target, Dawson moves alot and knows when to pick shots. Dawson takes at least 8 rounds.
I think Hopkins could win this potentially. Dawson has a lot of holes to exploit defensively. He also takes a lot of time outs, and is not consistent in his work like Calzaghe to tire Hopkins. This will allow Hopkins to keep the fight at an uneven pace, it plays into his hands. Dawson is not a good inside fighter, Glen Johnson once inside caused a lot of problems and Hopkins is even more accomplished. Hopkins will take his most potent weapon, the jab. The southpaw issue, we know Hopkins is good against them.
Dawson was more or less a stationary target for many rounds in the Johnson fight and for one full round in the Tarver fight, not to mention big stretches during the other rounds. One thing to remember is that despite being much faster, he won't have Pavlik's power. Pavlik might not have the power he had at 170 that he had at 160 pound for pound, but I am almost certain he hits considerably harder than Dawson does.
See, I think there's a difference between being a stationary target (like Pavlik) and standing in front of someone. I understand why Dawson would sometimes stand in front of his opponents....he has to sell his name and tickets. I have no doubt against Hopkins, Dawson would move a hell of a lot more.
why the hell would you want bernard to quit after last nights showing? the man evidently still has a lot to give providing he is motivated enough to go on, which i think is fairly obvious he is.
Hopkins has the ability to understand and neutralise Dawsons superior physical attributes. Dawson is not an intelligent fighter, he doesnt have the adaptability to change and fight tactical. Neither does he have the defence to cope with Hopkins counter-punching ability. A step too far I think for Dawson at this point.
This is the fight I've wanted to see for a while (even BEFORE The Hopkins blow out) and while I once favored a Dawson decision, I think Hopkins might take it.
