If Calzaghe retires there really isn't a clear number 1 at LHW, and with Hopkins win over Pavlik and Dawsons win over Tarver then it is probably out of these two. I pick Hopkins, What about you?

Hopkins performance over Kelly was beautiful, given that Dawson doesnt come forward with quick slaps, I think Hop should be able to cope with that and get his punches in and out.

Also if they do fight, calzaghe vs the winner would be good showdown

    Dawson wins by out-speeding Nard.

Guys that come forward and try to overwhelm Hopkins LOSE.

If you have some foot and hand speed, you can beat Hard Nard.

I hope to God this fight gets made for next year and lands in AC.

Hopkins nicks pts win for me.

I think he can take Chad out of his rythm, he will pick holes in his defence and test his chin. Dawson isnt a pressure fighter and i beleive it takes some sort of pressure to get by Hopkins however old he is.

Hopkins UD, summin like 116-112, 115-113...

Not only would Hopkins have a good chance to win a clear decision, but in my view, especially given Hopkins probable strategy, he would have a good chance of winning by early referee stoppage too. I can see Dawson winning a couple of rounds, though, if he stays on the outside and uses his range and height well, as long as his tactical awareness, defence and lateral movement all improve.

Dawson is just a bigger, faster, more talented and polished version of Jermain Taylor. Hopkins gets defensive against guys who can get off first because he is very defensive minded and doesn't like to get hit flush.

    Dawson UD.

Maybe at a catchweight of 170, it would be 50/50 IMO as Hopkins seems to be invincible at this weight.

Dawson is NOT Pavlik people. You can't use the Pavlik fight to gauge the Dawson fight.

Hopkins is too crafty. He wins a 8-4 or 7-5 decision with the possibility of a KD.

For those of you picking Hopkins, tell me how a guy like JT, who "beat" Hopkins twice and does everything worse than Dawson, can beat Dawson? I mean JT won simply because Hopkins was so weary of JT's athleticism and hand speed. Hopkins is a guy who likes to set the pace and control the tempo. It's harder for him to do that against guys who can get off first because it completely disrupts his nice pace. It keeps him defensive.

I'm not saying Dawson wins for sure but if you look at Hopkins' history objectively and see who he has done well against and who he has struggled against, it's no mystery.

Ofcourse not, though the Pavlik win confirms Hopkins still has it at world level.

I just dont see Dawsons style being too much of a problem, I dont agree that he is anything like Taylor, other than being a tall black geezer. Dawson is a southpaw for one and Hopkins has an excellent record against them, I also dont think he makes the most of his height and reach, Johnson made his way in by just simply walking forward, Hop is a lot craftier than him and will def find his way past Dawson slack defence. he will both hit and hurt Dawson on the way to winning a decision.

I do, it's called blazing hand speed and the ability to get off first. Ask JT, Calzaghe, and RJ. :good
