Hopkins takes your best weapon away from you and Kessler's is his Jab. I can see Hopkins throwing that overhand right all night long for a UD, not as dominant as the Pavlik performance but definetely decisively.
Speed and workrate are Hopkins' worst enemies. See his losses to Taylor and Calzaghe. Kessler is quick and active for 12 rounds. Hopkins doesn't win this.
Taylor and Calzaghe are both faster and throw punches from a variety of angles unlike Kessler. Calzaghe also has the highest workrate in the game and Hopkins nearly beat him. Hopkins would figure Kessler out inside 5 rounds.
Hopkins could beat Kessler based on his performance against Pavlik, but he's got to get old at some point. I think pavlik was his last hurrah(plus kelly was sick and had a bad elbow) Kessler wins by UD.
In my opinion kessler is quite a bit like pavlik in style,,as long as age doesnt catch up to B-pops he'll outsmart kessler...Pavlik/ Kessler/ Abraham should make for better match ups though
I gathered that was your impression. That's what I'm curious about. In specific terms please explain that if you would. I made a thread about this subject and virtually nobody laid out in actual language why they believe Kessler does everything better.
Kessler's punches are straighter and more compact, and he is more well schooled technically. Most of the rest of their games are quite similar, other than Pavlik having the height and intangible toughness advantage. I'd love to see them fight, it would be a war!
I picked Kessler on a whim that Hopkins finally hears the father time whispering in his ear about retirement...
