Agreed....at this point in Bernard's career...its WAY too high risk, low reward (tho the reward sure as hell would be higher than fighting another Gary Lockett ).
Styles make fights, but we can compare Hopkins' and Pavlik's performances against Jermain Taylor for perspective. Bernard Hopkins twice went the distance against Taylor in losing effort, both times losing by a very small margin. As for Pavlik, Pavlik went 2-0 with Taylor, twice winning. BUT Pavlik was hurt badly by Taylor in the second round of their first fight. Taylor was never able to hurt Hopkins. Hopkins had Taylor reeling in the last two rounds of their first fight.
If the ref enforced the rules and made Hopkins actually fight? Not like that Calzaghe fiasco he was allowed to perpetrate? Yep.:deal
Hopkins was not himself in that fight. The altitude and what was going on OUTSIDE the ring (if you dont know what happened in that fight...go look it up...its ****ing a disgrace to the sport...) made it nearly impossible to be. But he also dropped Mercado in that fight...fought to a draw (couldve went either way in all honesty)...and DESTROYED him in the rematch, proving what he had mentioned as excuses to his performance were valid. For the way Pavlik fights, Hopkins is a NIGHTMARE for him. No way, no how does Kelly's handlers allow him to even dream of getting in the same ring as Bernard. Its the CLASSIC high risk, low reward fight. Makes no sense from Pavlik's aspect and I wouldnt knock him for a second if he doesnt persue this fight further.
i'd love to see pavlik go to germany and face sturm, if he passes that test then fight either abraham or a hopkins...i agree with what kellerman said "if ur the man at mw then clean out the division, fighting hopkins after lockett isnt doin squat IMO :happy
