No. Calzaghe fans are going to be forced to say it was a good win. After all, Hopkins was Calzaghe's best win. Personally, I'd say it was Kessler holding the keys to Ole Joe's legacy.
The ONLY reason Joe started dropping hints he might fight at 168 again is he is PRAYING Hopkins beats Pavlik and he can then say the fight was never nessecary. A Pavlik win and Joe will still be looking for his misplaced anatomy though. :deal
Problem is the squirrel has 'big uns' so trying to get them is a problem. Seriously though, I think Joe is ONLY making noise in hopes that Pavlik loses to Bhop and he will say he WAS going to fight him IF he won. If Pavlik wins, he will have retired Lockett, Bhop and Calzaghe by default. :deal
I'm here, guys...just busy as hell with my art & no time for ESB. Well, not as much time as when I was working for a living! So where is the press conf. gonna be? I should think about going, but if its in NYC, the though makes me sick.:tired Anyway, business as usual... (((((((((KP by KO))))))))) B Hop may give Kelly some difficulty for the 1st half of the fight, then KP figures him out, Popkins get gassed & then its the old folks home. :happy
Yes. For sure. We heard all this **** before. He was ducking Lacy (who was going to seriously **** him up). And Kessler was just too young and strong for poor old Joe. Hundreds of posts on here saying Joe would never take that fight either. The truth is, Calzaghe is in a completely different league from Pavlik. Prime Calzaghey wouldn't let Pavlik make it to the second half of the fight. At this point, Joe is well past best but still more than enough to outpoint Kelly. A year from now, the odds start to favour the younger man, who is improving with each outing and doesn't have to worry about age for a while.
Both Eubank and Kessler were better wins for Calzghe. This one is a bit of a risk for Kelly. No-one has ever looked good against BHop. (save perhaps Roy). And if Bernard survives 12 rounds (very possible), he is at least 50-50 to get the decision. If Kelly wins, folks will point to Bernard's age. So there's little up-side for the ghost here.
Would anyone call either the Pavlik-Hopkins or Calzaghe-Jones fights a superfight? Don't get me wrong; I will see both fights are they superfights? Plus, will there be a 24/7 for the Pavlik-Hopkins fight?
Neither one is a superfight, No. But each one has big names: Bernard is a legend and an ATG who seems to defy Father Time. Roy is the best fighter of his generation, and arguably the most skilled of any generation. He, however, appears to be a victim of Father Time. Calzaghe is the best boxer currently fighting (some would argue second best) and the longest reigning champ in half a cntury. He's undefeated, but Father Time is gaining on him, fast. And Kelly is the new superstar on the block. His defeats of Miranda and Taylor (twice) and his undefeated status put him high up there in the towers of boxing's current crop. They aren't superfights perhaps, given the career stage of Bernard, Roy and Joe. But they will be exciting, if only because we don't know a great deal about how either one will unfold.
If you could actually type the post above without seeing the ridiculous contradiction in it, you're dumb as a box of rocks.
He'll never have to find out the truth, because Kelly will finalize Joe's retirement with his win over Bhop.
