    equation: paulie - i.e + a = ?

    "wirte"..i have lotion for those..

focus ones attentions on matters a little less taxing than ingratiating oneself (through the medium of sarcasm and awe) to those in higher places.

no reply needed as response will not be forthcoming.

Should be given a re match? What for? This ain't charity, they arn't dished out like tofee's (Ok sometimes this might be questionable ha ha). Lets not mince our words, it was more than pretty convincing, more like settled beyond doubt. If he was too ill he shouldn't have went through with the fight mate, I understand most would too but it can't be an excuse to fall back on.

If Hopkins was a lot younger, and Kelly continued to win, moved to 168 and established himself, than yes by all means. However, BHop is to old. By the time KP works himself into a position to even ask for such a thing, Hops will be long gone. Pavlik at 100% against the version of BHop we saw on the 18th would make a fight of it, but still lose 116-112. A few years from now that may not be the case, but Hopkins will be long gone.

Pavlik needs to stay at 160. It's where his size and power are most effective.

the first fight was good and i would watch a rematch end of 2009 if Pavlik puts together 2 or 3 meaningful wins

Yeah, in a sparring session where Bernard cleans up the flaws in Kelly's otherwise strong game.

I know this is a little after the fact, but I just got the chance to catch the fight for the first time the other night, and I was absolutely astonished. I have been following Hopkins career closely for over 10 years, and he has been one of my favorite fighters on the planet during the past decade.

For me it started when I saw his two bouts with Antwon Echols, both fights were action packed, hard hitting, and filled with bad blood, not to mention plenty of extra curricular activity throughout. Then came Don King's "Middle Weight Tournament" in 2001, where he dominated William Joppy and a prime Tito Trinidad, and then was his big statement win against the bigger and supposedly stronger Antonio Tarver for his light heavyweight title where he was the serious under dog.

On the other side of the coin, I thought he turned in solid performances against, at the time, the undefeated and "next heir apparent" Jermaine "Bad Intentions" Taylor... In their first fight I felt Hopkins did enough coming on very strong in the 2nd half of the bout and should have earned the victory and retained his title. In the 2nd Taylor fight I thought it was a draw.
In his split decision loss to Joe Calzaghe, Hopkins looked far from impressive, and appeared to be aiming to do just enough to squeak out the win. Doing "just enough" never won over any fans in the fight game, and it left me wondering how much Hopkins had left in the tank...

I went into the Pavlik fight actually worrying that Bernard could possibly suffer his first knockout defeat at the hands of hard hitting Kelly Pavlik, and worried that might tarnish his place in boxing history a little bit. Well, it didn't take long for me, or the observers at ringside to figure out that even at 43 years old Bernard Hopkins can still bang with the best of them. A 17 year gap in age, and Pavlik being the naturally bigger, stronger man yet to lose a fight had me thinking Hopkins would end up going into a defensive mode after taking a few too many hard shots from Pavlik. Instead of playing it safe and doing just enough to get a decision, Bernard Hopkins gave more than he took. Every time it seemed like Pavlik hit him with a substantial punch, Hopkins would come storming back with a flurry of punches. He never let Pavlik get any momentum in the fight or even gave him an opportunity to operate from behind his jab.

He consistently beat Pavlik to the punch, throwing more shots, and landing at a significantly higher connect percentage. He dominated Pavlik in terms of power shots thrown and landed, and surprisingly was never hurt by Pavlik in any round. Hopkins confidence was soaring so high, that by the mid way part of the fight he was even mixing in a little bit of show boating into his devastatingly effective counter punching style. He was beating Pavlik, and he was beating him with ease. Hopkins rocked him on a couple of occasions, and simply made Pavlik look amateurish with the masterful boxing performance he put on. Hopkins went even more on the offensive in the 12th round and tried to knock Pavlik out. They threw punches in the center of the ring up until the final bell and even exchanged a few shots after the bell, then had some words while staring the each other down, and needed to be restrained by their corners. Then the corners started getting into it and needed to be restrained by security staff. The whole spectacle left the crowd buzzing in awe, probably a whole lotta folks wondering how in the world was Kelly Pavlik a 4-1 favorite over one of the best middle weights ever, and why in the heck did I bet so much money on him?

It was one of the most amazing performances I've seen in my 15 years of following the fight game, and I believe it cemented Bernard Hopkins legacy as one of the best fighters of all time. If Bernard didn't silence all his critics on October 18th in Atlantic City, then they simply weren't watching... And shortly after the unanimous decision was announced in Hopkins favor, he took the opportunity to yet again call out his arch rival Roy Jones Jr., and even loudly and confidently questioned all those in the crowd, "Don't everybody want to see me beat Roy Jones?"

There was big applause as a huge roar from the crowd erupted in response to his question... It's a fight I'd love to see, it's a fight that's long over due, and it's just further proof that this guy doesn't quit, he doesn't get old, and he just doesn't let up.

--To answer the question... No, I don't think there is any reason why there should be a rematch since there were no belts on the line and the fight was so one sided.

  14. **** no-this fight was too 1 sided to warrant a rematch...
