Hopkins said he wanted to fight at heavyweight, then he should fight James Toney. They were both middle weight champs, went to light heavy, and now at heavy. And they're both a hundred years old. Toney says no one will fight him, so Bernard should step up to the plate. They shoulda met by now anyway. Who wins? Probably a boring fight, but will bring some money to the table. Lights Out by UD.
This was a hot topic six months ago, Toney called Hopkins out in public numerous times, even stated they could fight at a catch-weight of 205 lbs, but Hopkins wanted none of it. It would have been a meaningless fight anyways. A good fight in 2003, yes, but not now.
I actually think this fight is one of the few that actually makes sence for me for those guys... they don't have a snowball's chance in hell against one of the brothers. They have a very, very slim chance against Haye somewhere deep in 2011 and there aren't much other big fights with a good win chance for them.
Naah, fatman only fights once a two year ... would be a waste of time for B-oldtimer if he wanna finnish big
Light's out by UD or TKO......This fight would be great! Two crafty vets who know all the tricks in the book with vastly different styles. But they woud match up well. Nard can stick the joint out but James wouldn't allow that to happen.
it would be the usual counter puncher snorefest Toeny Holy 2 makes sense or Holy rahman or rahman briggs, or toney briggs Lets recycle the HWs properly
so Toney was the one calling for a catchweight of 205? could Toney even make that? m if Tarver is going to fight at HW Hopkins should at least move up to Cruiser as Dawson already has a fight with Pascal and if he gets by that Tavoris Cloud looms.
I think Hopkins is looking for a big final payday. Toney won't provide that so it's very unlikely. I'm sure a lot of die hard fans would love to see it. But if they fought, i say Hopkins UD. He'll come in a fit 195 or so and just outpoint Toney by maintaining distance and pot shotting. Toney is a fat slob, he'll look slow against Hopkins.
I don't see the point. Toney has looked to be slipping since the Booker fight. His last one against Greer he looked awful despite winning early and he looked terrible in the Peter rematch. His reflexes are gone, his punch resistance is going and I think he should call it a day. I think Hopkins would beat him at this point, he's a little older (I think) but he's looked after himself and hasn't slipped anywhere near as far as Toney. Toney's one of the best fighters to watch ever imo and one of my all time faves but there comes a time to call it a day and he's punchy already. Sooner or later he'll be knocked out for the first time and probably by some kid who's not fit to polish his shoes.
The same can be said for Hopkins but then again he's still relevant in his division. I don't know how though.
