    Hopkins wins every time.

If both are at their best, I'd favor Bernard to win at least by scores of 8-4.

I love Toney and have said multiple times that he is probably the one fighter that turned me from a casual fan into a hardcore fan of the sport, but Toney struggled with guys who moved well and were effective on the outside. If someone came at Toney he almost always looked spectacular, but he did not fair so well with guys who kept the fight at a distance. Hopkins would do so, he'd use his much superior footwork and height and reach advantages to control the entire fight at a distance where he can do well and Toney can't. And even if the fight went to the inside, Hopkins was every bit as good as Toney was their also. James is great, no doubt, but Hopkins was a better overall fighter, much more versatile than Toney.

    Hopkins as he's more adaptable.

I'm a Toney fan but he doesn't beat Hopkins for all of the reasons mentioned above. Stylistic nightmare.

I agree with everything in this post, accept the part about loving Toney. I can't stand the guy because I think he's lazy and wasted most of his potential.
But B-HOP is a perfect example of dedication. And yes, his versatility makes him win every time.

Agreed. Toney was overrated, though at his very best would've made a good fight of it.

I believe B-Hop would win a close decision. What i would prefer to see is Mccallum vs B-Hop...the cagey vet was all that a young Toney could handle. McCallum vs B-Hop would be a tacticle classic.

none of you are considering the power differences between the two, hopkins wouldnt be able to hurt toney and IMO his footwork is was overated just because of the tito fight, hopkins best tactic is to use what works best for an oponent against them, james toney is too unorthodox for hopkins and being the naturally bigger faster puncher james toney would stand a 50-50 chance with b-hop because b-hop dosn't always do well with strange unorthodox fighters(winky, roy, even Joe-C)

I am probably in the minority here, but i would actually love to see this fight made now. Toney would have a huge size advantage, but Bernard is in much, much better condition. I am confident that Hopkins would outbox Toney and probably stop him around the 8th or 9th round, but it would be great to see how important size really is. Both were great middleweights/light heavys when in shape, although Toney was naturally a lot bigger. Both are heading towards their final fight. I would love to see Hopkins take the fight and come in somewhere around the light heavyweight limit, or lower.

Footwork and ring generalship are two of Hopkins's best attributes. They also happen to be two of Toney's worst, at least when faced with the correct style of opponent.

You broke literally nothing down here. Hopkins handily beat Winky IMO, and lost to two elite fighters at different stages of his career, both of whom fight nothing like Toney, and both of whom were facing a non-prime version of B-Hop.
