If you watch carefully you can clearly see that Hopkin's used Roy's punch.

Hopkins is a master of styles. He is like a chameleon or like Shang Tsung or Dural. Ward does this too.

Proof that he mastered Roy's style and used it to beat Trinidad, skip to approximately 3:49 and you'll see him do the exactly same combination and move Roy Jones Jr used to do when he would jump into his opponent while throwing punches.

You also see clearly Roy Jones patented check hook at 4:19, and you see Roy's punch again at 4:20.

It appears that Bernard Hopkins had the athletic talent to fight in Roy's style and made a tactical decision to fight in the technical safe style. If you watch him in the Trinidad fight, he was using a mix of Roy's style on the outside and James Toney's style on the inside.

That overhand right that he still uses to this day against guys like Pascal and Pavlik he took from James Toney. See for yourself. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vD4Ku-4BR9s[/ame]

His infighting and some of his right hand counters came straight from watching tapes of James Toney.

Is there proof of this or is it an assumption? It would be cool if it were true but I tend to believe that Hopkins has every move in the book anyway. He learned his craft from some of the best teachers in Philadelphia.

Watch the moves he makes at approximately the times I mention. They are clearly Roy's moves. It's unmistakable.

This fight was what gave Hopkins his name. Tito should've postpone this fight, with the 9/11 events and marriage problems, he was going to lose to a very determine Hopkins. But there was too much money involve and to be made.

I see what you are saying about him using Jones style. However, that is a style that many boxers before Jones have used. But you are right, Hopkins is just a complete master in there.

No version of tito beats hopkins, ever. Tito's style is what Hopkins loves. Just one dimensional fighters, who aren't that fast and are constantly looking for a ko.

Hopkins Used his own style to beat Tito, He had him mentally beat before even getting in the ring.

Hopkins used his damn head to beat Tito the same way Ward used his head against Kessler to beat him. Make whatever debate you want, but that played a crucial role in that victory

    Trinidad didn't belong @ MW.
(As w/The B-Hop win over De La Hoya)

Regardless of how much better Felix was than Oscar @ MW neither belonged in the weight class. Bernard beats them both 10/10 times.

Hopkins used his own style & size to simply wear them down.

Hopkins thouroughly outclassed Tito that night. That was a perfectly designed and executed game plan. An absolute masterpiece. Fluid, powerful, effective.

I see what you are saying about picking up some pieces from Jones, and nice film work.

Wow, another thread that turns into something about how Hops does not deserve the credit he gets for that win that NO ONE saw coming!

EVERYONE knew Tito was going to be a great middleweight after he demolished Joppy, and nobody said he was too small for the weight.

I remember the build up video's. "Tito Trinidad is a former welterweight champion, one of the most devistateing punchers of this era, seeking to fulfill the mantle of Ray Robinson and make history, and Bernard Hopkins is the man standing in his way". Talk about a one sided build-up!

Hopkins schooled him and suddenly he was fighting a smaller man who should not have been at the weight:patsch

Your saying he just stole Roy's style? Well he stole Ali's, and Ali stole Ray Robinson's, and Ray stole Armstrong's, ect ect ect and eventualy everything that has ever been accomplished is really thanks to Grunt, the first cave-man to swing a fist at another person.

Thank you Grunt, greatest of all time.

Now shake your head. Hopkins came up with a brilliant game-plan, and beat a guy who had already proven he had what it took to compete at 160 pounds (he diddnt eek out a win of Joppy, he Demo'd him). Hops deserves the credit for that win. It was awesome!!!!
