Hopkins is realizing the Roy Jones fight makes no sense anymore so he's turning his attention to the guy who spoiled the show, IBO Cruiserweight champion Danny Green.

“Nobody’s mentioning Danny Green. Danny Green mentioned me and I’m mentioning Danny Green. There’s a reason why American reporters don’t want to mention the fight with Danny Green because nine out of ten, if I take Danny Green’s offer, I will go to Australia and get Australian money where HBO and no other American network will have anything to do with it.” Hopkins explained. “It’s a win-win situation for me. Danny Green reached out for me. I reached out for him. We are in negotiations as we speak…for his cruiserweight championship.”

“Everybody’s mentioning Dawson, Adamek, Bute, these guys, and that’s good, but HBO has already spoken. They said that there’s not enough money to make you happy. But now…Danny Green! Nobody’s mentioning Danny Green, but me. That’s where I go. I’d go on a plane for 13 hours.”

“I don’t think the fans want to see this fight, even though I’m going to cruiserweight, which is two hundred pounds. But I was gonna fight Adamek, who was cruiserweight. I was going to earn three million dollars, two, or less. I go over there and fight Danny Green, who knocked out Roy Jones Jr. in a minute thirty seconds. Danny Green became somebody when he knocked out Roy Jones. Listen, I don’t believe any Hall of Famer has gotten knocked out in less than two minutes in the history of boxing. So why not piggyback off that? Why not use that?” Hopkins said. “I can see the promotion now! Can Danny Green do the same thing to Bernard Hopkins that he did to Roy Jones in Australia? That’s it! Let’s ****ing see it!”

Well, some of his comments are confusing, but Bernard sees this opportunity as a solid name fight for good money and interesting promotion. Obviously, it all depends on the money Danny Green is ready to offer and Golden Boy Promotions' solution for a good US TV fight deal. The fight would obviously be at 180 where Green had his last few fights.

What do you think, should Hopkins take this fight?

He clearly isn't interested in his legacy anymore, who can blame him I suppose he's done more than enough to be considered an ATG. But I'd still like to see him do more. At 44, his legacy isn't going to disappear if he loses to the likes of Dawson, Adamek, Bute etc, it can only improve. And he'll still be getting paid handsomely, he's just chasing bigger money that he doesn't need.

I'm glad he's not still pushing for the RJJ rematch but I would still much rather see him fight Dawson, or if he wants to fight for a "championship" at CWT, fight Adamek.

It looks like he's willing to travel to "Europe" after all eh?

Not the worst fight he could take by any means but not the best either.

I think, even though I personally think he owes nothing to anybody and can fight or not fight whoever he wants, that he must be less confident of himself at this point in the game to want Green over Dawson if that's what he decides. He's right about people not wanting to see it I think so I don't see where he's coming from. It's not the biggest fight to be made in my opinion for him. Not money-wise or legacy-wise. And I'm not sure it's even the best straight risk vs reward for him. As boring as it might turn out, I'd call for the fight he seemed willing to take before with Dawson. It may not be entertaining but it would be damned interesting to me.

Or Adamek at Cruiser as he's still the linear champ by Ring's estimation I think. That would be a good fight I think he could win pretty well. But again, if he's not confident, maybe he sees himself slipping in a way I haven't.

It would be stupid for him to fight Dawson. Dawson needs that fight more than Hopkins. The only thing Hopkins would have to gain fighting Dawson is a loss on his record because Dawson has less of a fanbase than Danny Green so it wont be about money. If It's about legacy then Bute would be a good fight, but why not take Greens IBO title? If Green is an easy win he should take it.

i disagree about the RJJ/Hopkins match not making sense anymore. I still want to see it.

Roy's chin is not the best and he got caught, **** happens. But the Hopkins/RJJ will be competitive and is 16 years in the making.

I dont care what his age is, when your at the top level of boxers like Hopkins is losing can not improve your legacy. It didnt help Ali's legacy after losing to Holmes and Berbick. It didnt help or add to Oscars legacy when he lost to Floyd and Manny. In my opinion if a top level fighter losses to another top level fighter the winner is the only one he gets a legacy boost.

What the hell are you talking about? Of course losing doesn't enhance his legacy, but at this stage I don't think it does too much to damage it. It's practically win-win. Ali's legacy was never damaged with the defeats to Holmes and Berbick, he was past it and people know that. People know that in previous years he'd of humilated Berbick and may of edged Holmes or certainly been very competitive in defeat. He's still most people's #1 HW of all-time.

If Dawson's fanbase grows and there's more money involved, then why not take it? Actually, it would probably still sell even now because it's Bernard. If the money's there, take the fight, and he gets a decent payday + a legacy boost if he wins. If he loses, it's not as detrimental to his all-time standing as you seem to think it will be.

here s a cruiser belt that surely helps his atg and a fight he thinks he can win. sounds like the same tone when he challenged Tarver and Pavlic

It's the IBO cruiserweight belt. That doesn't mean anything. It's not a legitimate world title. Not to mention the fact will be at 180, against a guy who's not really a cruiserweight and is there to be beaten.

I wouldn't say IBO doesn't mean anything in this circle jerk of titles anymore. Linear HW champ Wladimir Klitschko carries the IBO strap. P4P favorite and linear LWW champ Manny Pacquiao carries/carried it. Frankly, it's not anywhere near nothing anymore no matter how flawed it is. With the craziness happening with the WBA's regular champs and super champs and the WBC's diamond belts, cursing penalties and apologies for going to other belts to be granted unification sanctioning, the IBO's only lesser as a title right now because of its age. It's a worthwhile title, and it might be well on its way to being the dreaded fifth major title to be counted.
