Theres no need for that, I'm here to debate boxing not throw stones. Your probably just a 15 year old student about to go on your 1st date with your new boyfriend. We debate civilly here, please don't speak to me again.

not really. He was a huge underdog. Trinidad was a beast and had just blasted Joppy. In retrospect it is easy to pick apart the win but at the time it was huge. Trinidad was undefeated and a top p4p boxer.

Can I ask why you felt the need to insult me, there have been posters agree with me on this thread, I'm neither a moron or a turnip, the only way you would be correct with that statement is if you was saying that whilst staring into a full size mirror.

Joppy was better than C- level fighter, his win over Eastman, who was a top fighter, should be testament to that. The problem was he wasn't a great fighter, and thats what it takes to beat Tito at any weight. Against Hopkins, Trinidad ran into a great fighter.

But couldn't you see Trinidads floors at the time Auracle considering he clearly lost to oscar and had been knocked down 7 times at 147?

Do you think the win is overhyped because Hopkins had been severly underestimated by the public and that Trinidad had been hugely overhyped for a controversial handwrap queried knockout over a c-level fighter in Joppy?

What makes you think Eastman was a top fighter?

Do you consider Winky a great fighter?

No... It's just as the Pavlik win... He completely ruined their careers... Never been the same... Both were red hot stars before he faced them.

Depends what you mean by great. Great style? Great resume? ATG? I'd say he is certainly one of the best fighters of his era.

It´s easy now to diminish Hopkins victory over Trinidad.
Tito was undefeated at the time, and coming from an impressive string of victories from 147 to 160 (Whitaker, Oscar, Reid, Vargas and Joppy). The odds and most of the boxing experts favored Trinidad.

The whole middleweight tournament was a Don King fabrication with the intention of staging a Trinidad/Jones fight at 168 or catchweight.

I wasn´t just the fact that Hopkins beat him. Tito got dominated in and out...almost in every exchange, in the middle of the ring, and when Hopkins back was on the ropes... infighting, jabbing, brawling, Hopkins schooled him in every terrain. Hopkins even predicted Papa Trinidad would throw the towel.

Hopkins may be dirty, ignorant and racist, but NO ONE can deny he´s an all time great. If his domination of Tito is not enough for you, try his schooling of Roy Jones conqueror Antonio Tarver, or his amazing performance at 46 against 26 yr old Jean Pascal, an elite Light Heavyweight.

Yeah its similar to the Trinidad fight in that Bernard took Pavlik up 14lbs above his best weight to fight him.

you say it took a great fighter to beat Trinidad? Winky did it convincingly?

You think that qualifies Eastman for being a top fighter? Its commonly known as the worst middleweight era in history so it doesn't necessarily mean that Eastman was a top fighter. What would you say are Eastmans top 5 victories?

I think that Tarver is definitely Hopkins finest victory, but even then Tarver is an extremely overated fighter - B minus level but an excellent 2 weight jump from Hopkins.

Pascal was another excellent win considering Hopkins age and the fact he fought away from home but when all is said and done, Hopkins never beat an elite fighter at a fair weight in his entire career.
