No it's not. Trinidad was on a roll, he had momentum, he had ultra confidence, he was knocking everybody ****ing dead and Bernard had to be one hard ****ing wall to beat him. The Wright fight came so long afterwards it's not even relevant. Trinidad wasn't anywhere near the fighter he was when he fought Nard.

Trinidad would have busted Winky into little pieces at 154.

hindsight cannot capture context, and in boxing context is quite important. it cannot be ignored. it is easy to diss past fights, but it is mostly incorrect to do so.

There are a ton of posts in this thread that say it's unfair to use hindsight on this topic, yet these very same hypocrites have no problem injecting hindsight when they talk about certain other boxers.

  5. Good post. This thread is riddled with hypocrites, and the abuse the thread starter has received is bang out of order.

ONLY HATERS WOULD SAY IT'S OVERRATED. It was a pretty good upset. Lots of people were riding the Tito hype train, even me. Then again, I had no clue who Hopkins was at the time and only knew about Tito.

The fact you labeled Joppy a C level fighter makes you look ******ed. He was at least a B level guy. He had skills and his losses came from top fighters, most of them late in his career when he was fighting for paydays.

Tito may have spent most of his career at 147 but he wasn't a natural welterweight, he was huge. He then progressed naturally up the weight classes over a decent period of time and against generally high quality opponents. At middleweight he perhaps had lost of his advantages but logically he was still one of the top middleweight and the heavy favourite for the fight. It wasn't just the fact that Hopkins won, but they way he won. For me, it's a great performance and a top quality victory.

Thanks for the support, I tend to think that the posters resorting to insults are intellectually inferior and upset because Bernard had so many fights that he didn't emerge victorious in, and those he did win he had huge advantages stacked in his favour or was fighting c-level opponents.

To be a B-level guy, a fighter must have some signature victories. What would you say are Joppy's 5 best wins?

yeah, theres some truth in that. A very poor era, highlighted by the fact a eurobum like Eastman gained any sort of recognition.

Bernards Longevity cannot be denied, many of his best victories came at the end of the career, though in truth the likes of Pascal, Pavlik, and Tarver are not even Hall of fame calibre fighters.

In many ways Hopkins will be remembered most for all those fights that he couldn't win and the feigning of injuries / diving out of the ring to get a fight called off etc.

I'd agree that hopkins is a top 8-10 ATG middleweight even though he drew with Mercado and lost to Jones and Taylor twice at the weight.

Why does it have to be 5? That's your opinion.

I don't feel like heading over to Boxrec, but off the top of my head he beat beat Eastman and Cherifi (spelling). Both were top 10 guys. So that's 2 right there.

Nonetheless, C level? LOL, not even close.
