Hopkins in his prime Eats him alive? Lol. Hopkins always had trouble with speedy fighters. He lost to Roy Jones and Clazaghe. He lost to a merely good Taylor on points. His best wins were vs blown up lower weight fighters in Tito, and Del La Hoya. Outside of being super durable, and crafty, Hopkins never beat an opponent his size with hall of fame credentials unless you think Tarver is worthy. Now he's fighting a guy his size, who can box and hit. I do agree with you. If Hopkins somehow wins without any controversial fouls, Kovalev is not special at all. Just a hunch, Kovalev is no Pavlik. Not even close
and if hopkins gets destroyed in 4, and people will still be saying prime hopkins would of finished and schooled kovalev. so kovalev cant win either way. anyway if hopkins tries all those headbutts and rabbit punching or whatever or rolls on the floor for 5minutes from a legit body punch. The KRUSHER can continue punching when hopkins is down, as we know hes faking. :yep
My comment was that Kovalev has tracked down and timed much faster fighters. Ismail Sillakh for example. Agnew would be another. Even in his prime Hopkins was never fast. Speedy fighters were his weakness. Kovalev has not fought a hall of fame fighter yet but he has taken out a decent group of light heavies in style and has great amateur experience as well. A better question is what Hopkins skill will legally bother Kovalev? 1 ) Hopkins is not a puncher, nor is he a top level jabber. 2 ) Hopkins is a counter puncher. But Kovalev will gladly trade with him. 3 ) Hopkins defense won't save him, as Kovelev targets the head and body well with straight shots. And Kovalev is brutal and relentless. Hopkins will have no quarter. 4 ) Clinching? Maybe but to clinch you have to stop the other guy from throwing punches. I find it hilarious that many Hopkins are picking him to win. Will many people picking Hopkins now will say he was too old after the fight was over? I think so.
