Hopkins would have beaten Calzaghe decisively in a rematch. Yes/No?

Calzaghe, or a fighter like Calzaghe would always have Bernards number. Styles make fights. Besides, when Calzaghe got to grips with Hopkins he was on a roll on the score cards. In the second fight he'd know what to expect from Hopkins and deal with it better. But no way can Hopkins deal with Joe's ridiculous stamina/workrate. Thats how ii see it anyway.

Hopkins was terrible that night and Calzaghe fought the fight of his life but I still think Hopkins won it. So I'd have to go for Hopkins in a rematch.

i don't know with this one as i had Calzaghe winning the first fight and fighters age differently!... what i mean is Calzaghe was not prime his hands had abandoned him. A prime Hopkins vs a prime Calzaghe would be a better debate and i think they are schooled in the art just as good as the other, but with Joe's workrate he wins comfortably and his KO power which abandoned him later on due to his hands. Although i do not for one second have him knocking him out but maybe softfen him up a little on the backfoot. I just think Calzaghe had his numbe3r much like Jermain Taylor. RJJ prime does them both!

Lol get ****ing serious! Calzaghe was caught napping in their first fight and was knocked down but after that he got stronger and stronger and stronger as the fight progressed....

So what possible logic would anyone have that rounds 13 to 24 would be any better for hopkins?!?!

    ROFL ESB nuthuggers on parade!

Calzaghe dominates Hopkins. BHop tasted some of his finest medicine: after starting unusually stong, it was Calzaghe who finished with the better ideas, Calzaghe with the extra stamina, Calzaghe with the mental advantages. Watch the fight forward and the knockdown will give you an impression whenever BH closes to Joe's chin he's delivering pain. Watch it backwards and not after 8 full rounds you'll find one you could honestly say it belings to B-Hop. This is not a fancy argument, do it and you'll see.

In fact as a Hopkins fan it's the only fight I can name where BHop was outthought and outfought, acting old and desperate when we all know he was still 'young'. In reality the target that was so visible in round one simply disappeared, and that's bad news for round 13 where rematches start. Calzaghe was one of the best adaptive figthers of his generation, and he got Hopkins figured out by R7.

It's probably one of those curious cases where boxing is unwilling to accept reality: Cocaine Calzaghe pulled a Sweet Science on Bernard Hopkins.

Hopkins won the Pascal fight because he was able to capatalize on pascals lack of stamina, after the 6th is was all hopkins and fair play at 46 that was an achievement but with Calzaghe pushing the action for a full 12 rounds without getting tired? I doubt it. In wales it goes to the score cards - 117 - 112 . 116 - 111 . 116 - 111. UD 47 - 0

Hopkins won the first match, come in with a better game plan and he definitely takes the 2nd.

Calzaghe was never hurt with the knockdown.

Calzaghe will still fight faster than Hopkins could ever cope with. He still had more stamina. He still had more wits.

Calzaghe still wins this fight going away.

If it was a rematch in Calzaghe's hometown, no way Hopkins wins.

Hopkins has always looked more aggressive with fighters that had lower workrates, i.e Pascal, Pavlik, Tarver, Wright.

That aggressiveness disappears when he fights Calzaghe, because of Calzaghe's superior workrate and because Calzaghe can out-just about anything Hopkins.

    Well, except power.

BTW, Calzaghe won the first match or we wouldn't even be discussing this.

It's sad to note that some 'fans' still can't see what happened when Hopkins met Calzaghe.

It's even sadder that they still hold on to fantasies about what a rematch might deliver, in the forlorn hope that their hero might show the world what a far better fighter than Calzaghe he really was.

    The truth would kill them.

Hopkins would, once again, get pummeled for 6-7 rounds by the collosal work rate of Calzaghe - and the accuracy. He'd try everything he could to undo Joe - but he'd never succeed. Not now, not tomorrow, not back then, not ever.

To Hopkins, Calzaghe was his nemesis.

He met a better man and a better boxer. It's not difficult. Get used to it.

This is about the best description of what happened when Calz fought Hopkins,BIG UPS to the writer.
JC would have smashed Hopkins that night if his hands weren't wasted.
He was a truly massive talent. Hope he makes a re-match now for one giant of a fight...COME BACK JOE!!!!!!

Hopkins would likely win a rematch, especially now with Calzaghe's drug use.
