A back of the pub fight for the Aussie heavyweight title, what a joke. Hoppa nearly quit twice couldn't decide whether his ankle was broken or his hand was buggered & poor ol bob, time to give it away, eats every right hand someone throws at him these days. But the highlight for me was fenech's snow hat, hilarious. I'll give hoppa one thing, he packs a helluva right hand but thats all he's got. I still think he ko's briggs though. Can anyone else see Barry Hall coming out & challenging Hoppa in his first defense.
saw the little flick at the ref sw!! said to my mate did he do that and we weren't sure?! big bob was gone 5 fights agon and should be forced to retire he is going to get serioudsly hurt.
Hall would not go 2 rounds against Hoppa, Hall stil playing AFL and hoppa has been training full time for 3 years he has power, I have never seen Hall fight and he is not fighting
It was nothing deliberate. Brad actually copped a couple last night! There was nothing in it just wild and woolly action
i dissagree phil. he threw the punch intentionally. its arc of travel was never aimed at his opponent. the punch was thrown at right angles....if you can get some vid (and you should be able to as you are a ref) have a close look.... we already know hoppa is as good at making decisions under preasure as tyson....
Fair enuff SW - from your view on telly you might well of had a better angle of it than I did from where I was sitting
Disagree with you to the marrow Roscoe. Watch heavyweight fighters in the old days and outside Johnson, Dempsey, Louis, maybe Baer and the Heavyweights have always been lumbering and hard to watch. I think it was a simply fantastic night for the game. And how about that for improvement!. From huffing and puffing his way through his first 5-6 fights, Hoppa not only goes the full 10 but comes on strong and in the process breaks down one of our great heavyweight gatekeeper warhorses with some late round combinations that we couldn't imagine him throwing. Tripling the jab going backwards!!!! Hoppa, rejected from Rugby League and Rugby Union, comes to boxing a humble man with no options, trains hard, is ridiculed, sticks to his guns, looks bad in a few fights, swarmed by knockers and tall poppy fools and gets the belt nobody (except 1 humble Sweet Scientist) expected him to get. Well he now has the Green belt on his wall that nobody can ever take away. The belt that has been worn by Tony Mundine, Dave Sands, Peter Jackson, Kali Meehan and other greats of the sport. - Great for the Pacific Island community. - Great for all those kids who have come to a dead end or been kicked out of an institution. - Great for Main Event to support a non Mundine/Green fight - Great example of the redemptive powers of Boxing. - Great for my second half of the year unstoppable fight tipping Its a toss up which is my favourite moment of 2008. Nader the Lionheart with his proud Papa in the ring after the fight after roaring back into the contest in the late rounds against Mundine with a screaming Ent Cent. Or Hoppa's second wind and bewildering array of punches to snatch the green belt. And all this after Nathan Briggs epic war with Col on Friday night!. Viva the green belt! Viva the heavyweight division! (C'mon Chauncy - what about an Anzac Clash NZ v Australian heavyweight showdown?) Viva Australian boxing! Viva Serena Williams thighs This content is protected (oops wrong forum)
Good post mate, Great for Hoppa and boxing in general, he isnt a league star anymore, he is the Aus heavy champ and should be very proud of himself. Kegsy????? Hoppa into the top 20 AUssie p4p? maybe too early atm.
I had a very good look at the replays for the argie soccer player. The punch ricocheted off his shoulder and lightly clipped him in the back of head and actually missed his temple. The fall looked stiff instead of numb and lifeless. After 3 or 4 mins he was fine again and when he went to congratulate Lance he was clear as day. A knock that gets you down and out for 3 mins doesnt clear up that quick and you'd think he'd still be a little groggy. Cant see Barry hall taking on Hoppa right away. Hoppa will probably only have 1 successful defense of the title before he loses it again IMO. Kerry Foley, dont think he anything special. Nothing like what the commentators made him out to be, regardless of how awkward chan was. His defense is really lacking. wont make it big IMO. He might actually benefit from de-bulking a bit and going down a div. They had some good shots of the ring ladies. yummm (seemed to notice these a bit more than the streaker with the hard-on, sally )
one of the few that has represented australia in two sports, and one of the very few that has been an australian pro boxing champ and an aussie rep at another sport.....
Hoppa Aussie top 20 p4p. Not even close mate...will have to beat another couple top Aussie Heavyweights to even be considered. Still has Alex Leapai well ahead of him for starters, is on a similar level to Nathan Briggs now. Those 2 matches loom on the horizon.
