Hoppa New Auusie Heavyweight Champ

Never respected him as a footballer, but he's earnt some now. Hard work has paid off. Hope he keeps working on his technique as well as the power.

Can't see Barry Hall walking away from AFL at the end of this season, perhaps end of next. But by then, he's getting on in age to be making a fresh start. Even though he has boxing ability already and was trained in it from an early age.........time will tell.

Da sweet science - your easily pleased if you thought that was a great heavyweight fight. Slow, cumbersome both of them. I agree bob should be forced to retire he's seriously taken unwarranted punishment these days. Hoppa was ejected from league to due his ****wit behaviour on the field big difference from being rejected. Honestly if you think the likes of Hoppa, Haumano, Leapei are the new faces of heavyweight boxing it goes to show how **** poor it is for real talent. Good hard sloggers & thats it.

I thought last night was the WORST fight I had ever watched bar none.

 

it was a good hard brutal fight. they wernt world class.....but a good fight......

 

its amazing that certain people come out and say hoppa has no chance against big bob and then hoppa comes out and beats him and there is reluctance to give credit where its due.
hoppa is not about to beat lennox lewis but he has made an amazing accomplishment in a short amount of time and has proven most people wrong.

i just hope the likes of hoppa, haumono, de mori etc. can make it up the world rankings and maybe one will challenge a title holder in the future.

 

Rosco and Boxon. We each set our own standards and when it comes to last night I am very easy to please. A genuine fan of soccer likes EPL, to A-League, to Vodafone State Premier League down to Under 6's. Its about the stories behind the game and how much personal improvement people make. Not whether Hoppas jab is up to Larry Holmes or Muhammad Ali's.

To watch Ike Ibeabuchi vs David Tua and then watch Hopoate vs Mirovic can be hard to adjust but its about having low expectations and being thrillingly surprised.

In most peoples eyes Hoppa had a punchers chance at best, was expected to blow smoke for 4 rounds, implode and get crunched and quit and be considered brave. Fight a few more fights and quit again. But he didnt read the script and you can either be positive or negative about it and you are entitled to be either.

Hoppa was born in a grass hut in Tonga, came here with nothing, played Rugby League for Australia and is now the heavyweight champion of Australia. With crazy chaos in between.

You can't stoppa the Hoppa.

Sally I know what your saying but c'mon they are all just big sloggers that will not make the slightest impact on any heavyweight scene outside of Oz. Someone says you can't stop the hoppa, put him in with shane cameron & see what a mismatch it would be. Yes make fights between hoppa, sol, alex, nathan & yes they will hard slogging affairs but if any of them step up they'l get defeated & easily. You can't tell me that Oz boxing at heavyweigth is going strong with Hoppa holding the crown. Give me a break.

 

they are obviously not ready to take on klitschko but don't forget hasim rahman never had an amateur career either and you can see that his power won him alot of fights. he was a footballer who became injured and took up boxing instead.

all these aussie heavys need experience and u just never know 1 of them might surprise everyone.

Just read in the paper today, Hoppa wont fight Sol cuz he's like a brother and he wont fight family. :tired

 

its usually the other way around. brothers usually can't wait to smack the crap out of each other. and to have people pay and watch to ko your brother would be fabulous.
