I hurt my ribs last week in sparring got dropped twice from bodyshots, didnt think much of it at the time then got home and the day after i couldnt get out of bed to go to work my ribs hurt so much...I rested all day then went to train in the evening, which made it ten times worse so the next 3 days i decided to rest. on the third day, i went to the doctors to get my ribs examined cause they were still hurting pretty bad, after a 1h30 mins examination the doctor told me 2 of my ribs were severly damaged and might be broken...he then told me that broken or not with this type of injury my body would take up 4 or 5 weeks to heal.. I cant ****ing beleive it! ive been training 6 days a week non stop preparing for my first Muay Thai fight that would of been in 2 1/2months and now im totaly ****ed im so depressed, the doc said i couldnt even go jogging FOR **** SAKE i really fear im going to just put on loads of weight and get really unfit... Plus training is my life, i just dont know what else to ****ing do in my time off, so any advice from people that have been in this type of situation would be really great because right now im thinking **** the doctors im taking 4 more days off and going back to train and ill deal with the pain....cause psycologically i just cannot imagine myself nnot training for more than a week, sports are my ****ing life the rest boring....
Doctors are always going to err on the side of caution. I would use Advil or some type of painkiller before I worked out, but would do all activites I did before except spar. Then as some more time went on, I would ease back into normal training, perhaps wear a chest protector to guard the ribs. Stay with your diet and nutrition program. Continue your cardiowork, that won't aggravate the ribs. Regarding painkillers, I would advise just over the counter stuff like Advil and not addictive narcotics. A narcotic painkiller is ok once in a while, but not for daily and habitual use.
I don't cope. I have been out with a knee injury for almost 4 weeks now and and still nowhere fully recovered. I have tried to cross train but my motivation simply isn't what it should be. My biggest problem with any injury is the temptation to exercise when I am not fully recovered. But patience is not one of my virtues. I hate being bloody injured!
I usually go on the booze but i wouldnt recommend it. Also don't rush yourself back and risk futher more permanent injury. Playstation is a good alternative and eating sensibly.
ive made my mind up im going to give it two weeks of real rest then after that im going to start jogging and running for a week then on the fourth week ill go back to the gym and running, then 5 th week include some weight training 6 th week sparring!
I am recovering from an ankle injury and I figured that if I could maintain a pristine diet when not exercising, it would be a whole lot easier to do so when exercising. I was correct. But the day after I hurt my ankle I did indeed go out on the **** - I did not realise how bad it was.
Bud I was there myself a couple months ago a few days after my 1st MMA fight I was going alittle to hard trying to work on what made me lose that fight and I hurt my ribs badly tried to train a couple days with it and it was horrible these ****ers where actually cracking it sounded like and I could barley breathe and it was tough very tough for me to get out of bed. Finally I spoke to the doc he said I had a broken rib and should not do anything for atleast a month that was easy for me because I was working 10 hour days at the time but very soft work but id still go in and train lightly 1 day a week. Eventually in 2 months my ribs where totally recovered. Now you sound like you have nothing else going so im not sure what to tell you but bro dont risk it and make things worse like you can puncture a lung or something and risk your life its not worth it.
