Horrible stoppage by this unknown referee!

Some people might like it , but I dont like to see the chicken dance.

Mares' eyes looked completely glazed over at the time the fight was waved off. And I don't think complaints about an early stoppage are necessarily any more warranted than complaints about Mares getting too long to recover off the first KD.

 

Exactly the ref is supposed to asses if a fighter is ready to continue regardless of the time left in the round!

 

The ref did his job. There is many ways to view it at this point. Mares could have recovered and won, or fought on and gotten destroyed in a possible life changing manner. Now he still has a chance to make a comeback and possibly win a rematch, I prefer to look at it this way.

 

All those fighter you have just mention took lots of damage in those fights and were never the same after those fights.

 

Not only that, Gonzalez is veteran, former two times champion with KO power ! if he was able to catch Mares while he was fully aware, the odd of a dazed Mares surviving the second round slim to nun, 0 ,zilch ..

 

You've got to give the champ a chance to at least get up and give him the 10 count. If you see signs that he can't continue then stop it. But to not even give him a chance to stand up?

 

It was a very heavy KD the first one was and that was the end of the fight there in all honesty as he was badly hurt. He then gets knocked down again so i have no problems with the stoppage. Mares was done.

Man he was done and he was in with someone with lethal power.Referee did a great job gave him every chance he just couldn't go on.

Somehow a stunned Mares is going to take less punishment? The ref made the right move and did Mares a favor. I've seen refs send out the money fighter when the fight should be waived off thinking they're helping the guy out, with terrible results.

 

Even Mares said his legs were gone. Look how he had zero ability to protect himself after he got hurt the first time. Any ref who would've let Mares continue shouldn't be a ref.

 

I see no way that Mares could have gone on. Perhaps a rematch? Mares was badly hurt, his eyes........................
