Add to the list of fighters you stated that might have been better fighting fire with fire.

    Kovalev Ward 2.
Ward basically blamed it on Kovalev for failing to adapt in fight one when people questioned his "rough" tactics. He then finished Kovalev's resistance with three low blows in the final round of the second fight. Maybe Kovalev should have fought dirty too.

Same thing for Lomachenko, in his 'welcome to the "real" pros' fight with Salido, who might now hold the record for low blows, Loma stuck to trying to fight his fight despite the barrage of low blows which the referee was ignoring.

Actually, I wonder if Ajagba would have surpassed Salido's alleged 67 if Zhan had just accepted getting hit low was his duty as the visiting fighter.

    Very true.

You create a rod for your own back by not responding as future opponents become emboldened. Any HW contender who saw Povetkin against Wlad (or Povetkin-Huck) would have thought "I can rough him up and have plenty of success". Whereas if Povetkin had savagely punched Wlad in the balls and the back of the head in the clinch and used his head for good measure, at the very minimum future opponents would have thought "better not try anything dirty with Povetkin".
