Both are meant to be fighting TBA on the bill. It would be a risk for Fury, but Towers is a level below McDermott For Towers it would be a major opportunity especially as he is in his 30's already
Based on the Larry destruction, the first Fury fight & the 2 Williams fights then look at Towers record
towers or hayles or whatever he is calling himself wont be let anywhere near fury - at this level. towers, in my opinion, hasnt got the goods to compete with top british level heavys.....if he did the ingles wouldnt be sitting on him the way they are now, he would be very much fast tracked. he has spent so long in the nick and he's getting old by the month...he's been out long enough to have him knocking on the door of the top guns in the british heavyweight division, but he's not.....if he was any good he be banging down them doors. he's another paul sykes in my eyes....spent ages inside, came out, built a record on soft opponents and will be exposed against a good british level opponent, like sykes was against john l gardner. he wont go near fury unless it was for a title with big bucks attached to it so he could take an early retirement with a few quid in his back pocket to make it worth his while giving boxing a go at all.....fury beats him at this stage then he goes nowhere afterwards and hasnt made money. he's been saved for the easiest course possible to a british title shot...more than likely waiting for fury, chisora, etc to move on to euro or world rated fights so he avoids heavy traffic like them. just my thoughts on it.
I like Big John he was very unlucky in the Williams fight I have seen and the 1st Fury fight and should have got the decision. Towers is difficult to judge because his record is unproven
It could be a ten rounder for the Central Area title, we haven't seen a Central Area Heavyweight tittle fight since 1995 (Carl Gaffney v Neil Kirwood) It's time the historic title was taken out of the mothballs
He's not ready for Fury at the moment, it's not worth the risk but if he takes it on it he deserves major credit. Richard Towers is one of the nicest people you would ever meet, he loves helping the youngsters in gym.
Fury is a level above as English title holder. However I like your thinking how about Towers v Rob Beech for the Central Area title - Sheffield vs Liverpool. An all Scouse affair could be Beech v Price, or the Northern title Towers vs Danny Hughes/Chris Burton or Dave Ferguson
Indeed I forgot Fury was English Champion The Central Area titles became dormant with all the Penta/Intercontinental/Masters titles doing the rounds Dave Coldwell and Johnny Rushton revived them somewhat on small shows in Sheffield/Doncaster but they seem to be moribund again Be nice to see them more active Wouldn't mind seeing some of the matches you've suggested above Colin
