How about prime Joe Frazier vs prime Mike Tyson?

Tyson's too explosive for the slow startin smoking Joe, Tyson might end things before Joe even starts smokin

 

Tyson can ko Frazier with in the 1st five rds....
But what if he doesn't?
Unlike Frazier, Tyson demonstrated against multiple opponents he had some dog in him.....
Biting off Holyfield's ears, Trying to break Botha's arms, the head butts, and elbows he used when things were not going his way.
All are indications of a front runner, a great fighter when it's going his way, ordinary when it wasn't.
Against Frazier, if Tyson doesn't get him early , I easily see Frazier's relentlessness aggression eventually grinding him down, stopping Tyson with in 10rds.....

 

Joes demonstrated before that he can start fast… but yeah.

 

I see Frazier being badly hurt and knocked down a few times in the early rounds.

The dog in Frazier doesent allow him to stay down and he keeps beating the count.

Eventually Fraziers state of awarness is sent to another planet and Frazier goes into auto pilot and some how finishing the fight winning by split.

After the fight when asked how he survived his reply will be "I dont remeber anything"

Frazier was steered clear of punchers thru his entire career even avoiding the Ghost of Liston..........the only what I would call big puncher he met used him for bowling practice twice, Frazier was never even in the fight.

Tyson hits as hard as Foreman with both hands, is way faster of hand and foot with stellar defense.........down goes Frazier, that is about as guaranteed as death and taxes

 

I would make Tyson the favorite.

 

In all fairness, Joe Frazier, even in his prime was a very slow starter, he was decked twice in the same round against Oscar Binavena on Sept 21 1966, was lucky to win a hotly disputed 10 round split decision over Bonavena. Frazier lost the first two rounds against Jimmy Ellis on Feb 16 1970 for the WBA and Undisputed Title. Joe also lost the first two rounds against challenger Muhammad Ali on March 8 1971. With that being said, Mike Tyson was a fast starter, he usually tore into his opponents with fast left and right hands while bobbing with his peek a boo defense. Tyson hit just as hard as a young George Foreman did, but Tyson was quicker. I see Mike stopping a game Joe Frazier as Joe won't have time to get set with his patented left hook. We are talking about prime Tyson, probably 1988 version vs a prime Frazier, Fight Of The Century edition, there was no Botha or Holyfield yet on the horizon.

 

It's really not about Joe starting slow, Tyson is just too athletic for him. Joe could start the early rounds like he's starts the middle and later rounds and it wouldn't matter because Tyson is a substantially better athlete than him. Too explosive, fast and has KO power in either hands. Joe would just not be able to keep up

 

Essentially you are admitting that Joe is a slow starter by saying that he cannot start the fight against Tyson like he starts to fight in the middle rounds. Frazier is a slow starter just by that statement, Takeover. And true Tyson is just too athletic for Frazier, if Frazier's chin could not take Bonavena's bombs in the first fight in 1966, then could not take Foreman's in both fights, 1973 and 1976, I do not think that he could have handled Tyson's right hands either.

 

Frazier is working uphill here. They both have the same gameplan but one guy is about 20lb heavier and much heavier handed. Frazier would have to get into the second half of the fight undamaged and I can't see how he does that if he's trying to swarm a slugger famed for his accuracy and power. Marciano has the same problem against Tyson. Joe would have to catch Tyson with something big early on and then make sure that his defence is superb until the second half. I suppose its possible but I wouldn't bet on it.

 

I don't think anyone can beat Tyson at his own game (Marciano,Fraizer). The key to beating a prime Tyson is height,a good jab from distance & clinching anytime he gets on the inside. None of those attributes Frazier had. I would be rooting for Joe though

 

Joe "out-guts" Tyson...

 

I’d favor Tyson to win but I would never count Frazier out. He could start pretty quick if the situation demanded it. The first round of the first Quarry fight he matched his opponents pace.
