Winner against winner from tonight's card, and loser against loser. Showtime Championship Boxing doubleheader, just like this one. Orlando Salido vs. Miguel Angel Garcia, 12 rounds @ featherweight for the WBO title. Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Bernabe Concepcion II, 10 rounds @ featherweight A Concepcion rematch could be just what Lopez needs to stay relevant - or it could be the straw that broke the camel's back. Proving that he can win a rematch with a guy he had a tough war with would redeem him in part for not doing so against Salido. Also, a knockout victory would do wonders for restoring his confidence. On the other hand, the risk of getting KTFO by himself by the limited but still dangerously heavy-handed Pinoy after getting softened up by four wars in his last five outings (Concepcion, Marquez, Salido, Salido II - taking major damage from everyone except Oliver, really) might not be worth the reward. Opposite is true for Concepcion - why not go for the throat while Lopez is vulnerable? Where else does he go from here? May as well come out blazing in a rematch and hope for the best before vanishing from the world scene. For both guys, it would basically be a last chance to remain afloat in the title race. The loser would be dead in the water - especially if they lose by KO, which is 99% likely either way, whoever it is... Salido vs. Garcia is the obvious next step for both men. Salido has twice conquered JuanMa, and toppling another vaunted prospect can only sweeten his legacy and title reign that much more. Plus, it's a chance to claim bragging rights as "Mexico's #1 featherweight" - even though technically Miguel is Americano. Garcia still lacks that one big signature win (and a championship) to firmly ensconce himself as a true elite, and beating down Siri would certainly herald his arrival to that level. Garcia was actually supposed to have originally met Michael Farias in a WBO eliminator. The lower-ranked Concepcion was brought in as a replacement for Farenas, but I believe Garcia retained the right to advance directly to a title shot if he won (while Concepcion may have needed an additional "final eliminator" if he'd sprung the upset and beaten Garcia). It makes sense, no?
No to the 2nd part.. concepcion is done.. and Juanma's style can still give us some good fights... How about Jhonny gonzalez? that would be the best card IMO
