Great vids bruh . . . thanks for sharing.

Take note of the third vid . . . the fight against Gonzales. Like I said Gerry has four SD loses all from fighters who runs around never wanting exchanges. That's the exact example . . . the Gonzales fight. He was losing on points not until he caught him with the body shot. :D

The other 2 vids . . . example of what happens to fighters who moves forward and meets Gerry head on . . . . Vic belongs to that group.

So it should be a classic war. :yep

What worries me about Penalosa against Darchinyan is his lack of speed. His timing, distance and precision are also worse than Darchinyan's. Darchinyan throws more, better combinations too and is much more unpredictable in his choice of shots and general ring movement and attack set-up. Darchinyan should be seen as the clear favourite, but Penalosa does indeed have a chance because of his power, toughness and relentlessness. It is conceivable that he has more than just a puncher's chance - he could indeed break Darchinyan down enough to take him into a war before taking him out.

    For me, right now:

Darchinyan UD (wide, 6 or more): 45%
Penalosa TKO (after war, mid to late): 25%
    Darchinyan TKO (late): 20%
Penalosa UD (close, possibly involving a knockdown or two): 10%

Actually you got it all the way around... Gerry is a tactical fighter. He doesn't like chasing. Gerry doesn't have a 1punch KO. He likes to slow down his opponent and aim for body shots.
Gerry has the more unpredictable punches. They both have good combinations though. And Gerry has the ring leadership, because he always cut his opponent movements.
Vic advantage is youth and power. But going forward to Gerry is not the best way, all those who went forward to him got KOd. All those who backpedaled while outboxing him and made Gerry chase them won mostly.
What Vic needs to do is make Gerry chase him while unleashing his powerful hooks.

    i'd go for penalosa

i think vic is predictable especially in his last fight

he waits for arce to come inside then he kept on throwing and throwing those left looping fast uppercuts

arce kept on ducking to his right and he never changed tactics

i mean ****, how could his corner not realize that

gerry is too old...ten years ago i'll pick him to win via KO...but now he'll get outworked by a younger and busier vic....

Penalosa will suffer his first knockout loss to JuanMa, and there's an excellent chance he'll walk into the sunset after that. But even if he keeps on fighting, he'll be mandated to face the Montiel-Morel winner, who fight for the interim belt. Not a bad fight, but I don't see it happening and Darchinyan has better options.

this could actually be a good fight. vic could win by ud because he is the more active fighter but gerry's chin and overall defense is better than vid by leaps and bounds. this will go as gerry by ko or vic be decision. it really depends if gerry catches vic with something hard

I miss the Gerry from the mid 90's. He still had a shitload of his hand speed in addition to his always excellent technical skills. Its too bad that fight with Johnny Tapia never materialized back in the day. Win or lose, it would have given Gerry exposure to the US market a lot earlier.

penalosa is being harshly underrated. the man has good speed and very good power aside from his experience. he's easily match vic in the power dept. the only adv for vic might be his speed. i'd pick gerry to outbox him and stop him late.

this is a really easy one to pick. i would rather have penalosa fighting vic than juanma who i think is too big for him. with darchinyan, he would school vic rather easily even at this stage of his career. his last fight with vorapin doesn't suggest that he has slowed down too much. in fact, penalosa is still that good the last time out.

those who are picking vic this time are terribly underrating penalosa here or caught in the hype of vic wanting to fight vazquez.

Vic is > Deleon, faster hell more accurate and applies better pressure with speed. Leon slow, dopey style.. but hits like a mule too. I see Gerry competitive but Vic will finish him off late. Buh, old boy Penalosa is crafty. If he can figure out Vicky flaws he'll take him too school. I won't be surprise if VD get's stopped.

in the smaller weights, gerry is probably one of the best technical boxers there is and one of the best defense.

his weakness is he is not a pressure fighter in the sense that he does not really like to go up against a fighter whos idea of fighting is to jab jab jab straight and run all fight long. but if you stand to toe with him, well, we all know what happened to vorapin twice and gonzales.

VD will never be able to change his fighting style and will try to engage gerry, while work rate, sure he will be the overwhelming favorite, just one pop from gerry and it might be over. nonito donaire i am sure learned things from this guy and is fact asked gerry to be a consultant/trainer in his fights.
