How Andre Ward can be a PPV STAR?

At this stage of his career, I don't believe he can become a PPV star, regardless of what he does, aside from completely changing his fighting style, which could be disastrous.

That said, Ward does NOT need to become a PPV star. Personally I am sick of getting gouged for HBO quality fights getting the PPV treatment. Right now, fighters like Ward and 3G should NOT be headlining PPV's. I don't care if they are in title fights. But if Ward and 3G somehow signed for a PPV fight, I think it would be lucky to get 500K buys. While both guys have an air of popularity, neither are big sellers yet.

Realistically, the fight plan you laid out for Ward would never happen. Not in today's "One tough fight, one easy fight" schedule that many seem to be adopting.

I don't mean to sound like I'm crapping on your posts, because not my intention in disagreement. I just believe the dye is cast for Ward.

 

If GGG beats Canelo, Ward should go total war on GGG. Just absolutely shame him into the fight. That would get him a huge payday.

 

But I think Floyd and Ward are like chalk and cheese.

As Lance99 said Ward isn't Floyd and as loathsome as Floyd comes across at times I don't think that's his true persona, but he can carry it off. Ward as Lance said hasn't got the natural charisma to do this.

 

I still wouldn't pay to watch Ward fight

 

Some great fighters just don't have that star quality, they do not generate interest outside what most would call "hardcore" boxing fans.

Ward just lacks a likeable personality, I'm not saying he is not a nice person, I don't know him, he is probably a really decent gentleman but "casual" boxing fans just don't warm to him.

There is not a lot you can do with him now, he is at the back end of his career.

 

I'd bet your decision to buy or not buy would strongly be influenced by his opponent.
if it were Kovalev, Lil g, or Beterbiev, you'd buy in a heartbeat.

 

Rematch should happen right away, if it's to be done at all, IMO.

 

Charisma is a HUGE asset! Had Shane Mosley an ounce of Charisma, he might've been a bigger star after defeating DLH the first time. He had a fan friendly style, highly skilled, good looking guy, and a world champion. But no charisma or personality to attract fans to him. Shame really that that's often what it comes down to.
