I watched that Ruiz fight a couple times. Golota literally did noting the last 6 rounds after winning nearly the first 6. He gave it away. Ruiz landed all the hard and clean shots the second half of the fight. I don’t know what Golota was doing.

And in Ruiz’ defense, the one KD and point deduction against him were bogus.

Awful officiating from the ref. Bizarre fight.

Golota is competent but lost every time he stepped up

He could have put his foot on the gas and stamped more authority on the bout instead of letting his out of it's depth brain dictate everything.

Golota won both of those fights clearly. Horrible robberies. Shame because the foul Pole is one of the best to never win a belt.

I had him beating Byrd 116-112, and Ruiz 114-111.

While I had him beating Byrd a bit wider, the scorecards in the Ruiz fight were a disgrace.

Once was enough for me mate. You're a braver man than I.
And from memory that was of the quiet pimps more dramatic fights.

I disagree, he let Ruiz take out the second half of the match. I scored it 113-112 Ruiz. Same as one of the judges.

    Golota blew that one.

While I disagree with the 114-111 Ruiz cards, I agreed with the 113-112 card.

Fair enough, but I have a difficult time seeing where Ruiz won 8 or 9 rounds, however.

Indeed. That Ruiz got a thoroughly bogus gift decision in that fight is indisputable! Not only was he knocked down twice, and received another point deduction, he was outlanded by Golata! Golota clearly won this fight, and it was yet another example where Don King got Ruiz favorable treatment from refs and judges for his illegal tactics.

Without King, Ruiz is another mediocre regional fighter, whose only claim to fame would be he was starched by David Tua in 19 seconds. He is Exhibit A for how corruption can take a limited fighter with no real boxing ability to speak of and get him "victories" over better opponents. Like Golota, among many others Ruiz "beat" but really didn't.

Of course there was dirty play involved, Golota was supremely talented and he threw away his biggest fights... Bowe, Byrd, Ruiz... all of these fights he was comfortably winning and would have won, he was paid off or threatened that is a certainty.

just a mental case. when he was on tuesday nights on the u.s.a. network, i watched him bite samson pouh'a on the neck and then blatantly headbutt dannel nicholson. knocked grant down 4 times and was VERY far ahead. 11th round, he got knocked down, up quick, looked at ref, "i quit!" could have been one of the more dominant heavies of his era if he only had a brain!

Been a long time, but I remember scoring both clearly for Golota.
The Byrd fight was especially disgraceful, Golota was screwed both times.

These fights are reminders to anyone that knows boxing that if the powers that be don't want you to hold a belt, you're not going to hold one.
