How anyone can think the 03-05 Pac is better than the 08-10 version??!

I don't know if I'd use Margarito's eye socket as evidence. Margarito took a ton of punches to that very eye, and I don't know if people noticed, but Pacquiao landed a MASSIVE headbutt in Round 8 when Margarito had Pacquiao against the ropes.

I think sadly the problem is that most people don't really know anything about the Pac from the early days which is why he gets so underrated.

 

I've been following Pac probably earlier than you (he was a family favorite during his Blow by Blow days) so I strongly believe I have a say here.
I'm too lazy to research for videos, but what you miss to realize is his balance has vastly improved everytime he throws those right hooks and uppercuts.
You can actually use your fingers to count the number or EFFECTIVE right hooks and uppercuts that Pac throws before the Diaz fight (especially before Morales 2).
It's so easy to post videos of Pac stunning opponents with the right hook, but go watch the entire fight and you'll see what I mean.
He has been developing his uppercut for a long time but I believe he and Roach made it into a weapon during the Cotto and Clottey fights and it really paid off with that massive cut that it brought to Margarito's face last December.

This is one big reason why EM and JMM had relatively massive success over Pac.
That is, he over-commits to his punches making him relatively easy to counter and stun. (He still does, btw, but it's not as bad)
There's a video over a Mexican TV I guess with EM and MAB (or was it JMM) where El Terrible explained how he handled Pac and he stated this weakness.

Now let's fast forward to the JrWW/WW Pac.
Watch the ODLH fight and man of man, you can clearly see that it's a different animal in the ring vs the Golden Boy there.
Watch the Hatton, Cotto and Margarito fights and it's so easy to see that those hooks and uppercuts are different.

 

I'm the first to say that Pac's footwork, intelligence, and ring generalship have improved so you are preaching to the choir when it comes to that. But don't come tell me that Pac didn't know how to throw a right hook and an uppercut when his right hook / uppercut combo has been one of his favorites for years.

Are you sure that you are quoting the right message/poster?

All I'm saying is you must be blind if you think those right hooks and uppercuts are remotely comparable to what they are today.
I never NEVER said he can't "throw" those per se.
He can't throw them consistently effective back then -- that's my main point.
And it's rubbish to show several gifs of Pac throwing right hooks and uppercuts without watching the whole fight and see how REALLY effective or consistent it was.

And you just got to be kidding me if you "loved" Pac's right hook before Morales 2.

 

I think this is a tough question. He beat Barrera in 03 who was a better fighter than Hatton, Cotto, Margartio, Clotty, old DLH, and Diaz. His victory over Barrera was just as dominant as the other wins.
