And if it´s a good fight, everyone will be making noise. So there is at least something.

I think having fans in attendance definitely plays a HUGE role in fights.

I didn't miss them when Povetkin and Whyte fought, because it was a quality fight and both guys really took it to each other. But that was almost a one-off.

The vast majority of fights recently just seem like we've been allowed in to watch a sparring session. All you hear are the corners and some fake, piped in crowd noise.

The promoters seem like they can only afford to pay one boxer, because of a lack of a gate, so the mismatches are more out of control than ever.

Boxers who might be embarrassed to quit if there was an actual audience there, instead just stop fighting, like they would in a gym.

This last weekend was the worst, with the mistmatches and the quitting, with Ortiz's opponent just falling down and the ref stopping the Hrgovic fight after a couple punches to the gloves because a bloated, miserably out of shape Booker wouldn't fight back but also wouldn't follow the script and fall down like they all thought he would.

And then Hrgovic and Booker hugging like after a sparring session, because they do spar a lot.

And the Haney fight boring everyone to death.

It was just brutal. I hated it. The lone exception that I saw was the Frank Sanchez fight. His opponent was overmatched, but he was in shape and kept getting up and fighting. When a mismatch like the Frank Sanchez bout is a HIGHLIGHT, that's not good.

If we are just going to watch mismatched sparring sessions, stop fighting until you can get a live gate.

Or hold all the fights in Australia. The only fight card I've enjoyed from top to bottom in months is the Tszyu-Horn card, because it was a real matchup with an excited crowd. Compare that show to what we saw last weekend on DAZN and Fox. Just no comparison.

Most don't even feel like gym "wars." Just gym work.

I don't know how anyone could prefer it, honestly. It's better than nothing. But I don't think, on any level, it is BETTER than having an audience.

No fans for me makes it seem like a personal and more brutal fight, you can hear all the punches and cornerman, and I also like how smart tactical fights don’t get booed, but the Davis and Cruz fight was pretty cool cause of the fans. You can’t really say the crowd didn’t add a great atmosphere

I’ll watch a boxing match in an alley and be happy but I also love the fans and the atmosphere of a huge fight. Especially the crowds anticipation of the opening bell for round 1, or the response to a huge shot or ko.

Tend to agree with the OP.

It's like the fights are in the old GET SMART sitcom Cone of Silence

    Cant stand it.

I never realised how much the viewing experience on TV is impacted by the atmosphere in the venue.

No matter how big the fight is, it feels like watching a sparring session.
