I know they have been doing very well recently but how have they done in terms of qualifying for the Olympics? Is Price there?

    Britain has 8 , Ireland has 5 .

The 5 Irish ones are Paddy Barnes , John Joe Nevin , Darren Sutherland , Ken Egan and John Joe Joyce .

Britain have Frankie Gavin , James Degale , David Price + 5 others which don't come to mind right now .

Ken Egan and Sutherland look very good. Who are Irelands best hopes for a bit of success?

That's a lot from both. Have they expanded the tournament at this year's games?

154 from 50 countires as of 10th March

286 total (26 in each category)

    China 10
    Russia 10
    then
    algeria (?)
    Thailand (?)
    ukraine all on 8
    then
england (which i have already complained about but not that i give two ****s about britain) and morocco (?) on 7.

one person per country per weight. One that basis how can thailand have 8? They're all wee guys.

Will certainly be dodgy judging like last time and so all brown paper envelopes must be properly sealed as is customary in Asia.

I really hope the British boxers bring home a medal or two. The event is a great chance to show how great our little countries can be when together.

It is nice to see Ireland having a few lads there as well.

Sutherland is probably our best hope as he is certainly capable of beating almost anyone on his day . He carries the power to to stop any other middleweight out there aswell .
With that said I wouldn't really fancy him to get a medal .

JJ Nevin has a perfect style for amateur boxing and is a class operator but I feel competition will possibly be too strong for him at that weight division .

It's a phenomenal performance by the team and tough luck to Stephen Smith who only just missed out, only needing to win one more fight in the recent tournament in Athens.

So as I understand it the team is:

    SHW: (+91kg): David Price
    HW (91kg): -
    LHW (81kg): Tony Jeffries
    MW (75kg): James Degale
    WW (69kg): Billy Joe Saunders
    LWW (64kg): Bradley Saunders
    LW (60kg): Frankie Gavin
    Fthr W (57kg): -
    BW (54kg): Joe Murray
    FlyW (51kg): Khalid Yaifi
    Light Fly (48kg): -

Pretty phenomenal effort and indicative of the strength of amateur boxing in this country at the moment that we're only missing reps in a couple of weight classes. Even better, there's strength in depth with excellent boxers like Michael Maguire, Obed Mbwakongo, George Groves, Neil Perkins who aren't far off the guys in their weightclasses who are going. All boxers except big Dave Price are 23 or under.

Most of those guys have got a good shot of a medal as well, although as themacallan says, some Seoul quality scoring could make it tough to beat Chinese fighters in the lower weights.

I love the Olympics, I get into sports I usually wouldn't look out of my window to watch like gymnastics, weightlifting etc.

With the new red button system I reckon we'll pretty much be able to watch every fight of the whole Olympics live.

    Female gymnastics = :tong

There are some good sports but due to Britains shitness I do not watch them. I will be looking forward to the cycle events.

Its true, you do find yourself following events that wouldn't usually appeal - like the Sailing!

I'm looking forward to watching the boxing, athletics and swimming especially.

Also have a soft spot for the rhythmic gymnastics as I did a lot in my teens - before dancing became my main focus! :good

Ha. They've changed it to Great Britain. Now if only they would let the dalai lama go home.
